About the Role:
A fast-growing digital product firm is seeking a
Senior Java Software Engineer
to support a high-impact initiative for a major financial services client. This role focuses on evolving core banking architecture, implementing new account structures, and enhancing member-facing services such as entitlements and permissions. You'll work in a highly collaborative environment with complex interdependencies across teams.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with strong Java fundamentals, a deep understanding of clean code principles, and the ability to work autonomously. You'll contribute across the full lifecycle—from design and implementation to testing and deployment—while mentoring peers and supporting production systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead development and testing of scalable services
  • Translate product requirements into technical solutions
  • Shape system architecture and contribute to design decisions
  • Deliver production-grade code in a microservices environment
  • Mentor junior engineers and support team growth
  • Participate in on-call rotations for live service support
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and documentation practices

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of programming experience on a modern stack
  • 2+ years of experience with Java, Kotlin, or Scala
  • Strong understanding of relational databases and ORMs
  • Experience with microservices or SOA-based applications
  • Familiarity with Spring, PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes
  • Ability to work independently and communicate technical decisions clearly
  • Experience with code reviews, pull requests, and collaborative design
  • Comfortable analyzing time and space complexity (Big O)
  • Able to read and explain unfamiliar Java code and identify performance or correctness issues
  • Skilled in selecting appropriate data structures (HashMap, HashSet, List, Queue) based on performance needs
  • Capable of designing and delivering working solutions from loosely defined user stories
  • Familiar with refactoring techniques to improve legacy or messy code
