Overview

Looking for an opportunity to grow a softball program in Washington, DC? We have the perfect position for you. We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Head Softball Coach to join our growing varsity program. The ideal candidate will have a passion for coaching, sports education, and working with youth. This role involves developing players' skills, fostering teamwork, and promoting a positive sporting environment. Prior experience in sports coaching, teaching physical education, or working with student-athletes is highly valued. This position offers an excellent opportunity to make a positive impact on young athletes' development while promoting healthy activity and sportsmanship.

Duties

  • Plan and conduct softball practices and training sessions tailored to various skill levels
  • Teach fundamental softball techniques including batting, pitching, fielding, and base running
  • Foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive behavior among players
  • Monitor safety during practices and games to ensure a secure environment
  • Organize and supervise games
  • Provide guidance on physical fitness and encourage healthy lifestyle habits
  • Manage behavior issues using effective behavior management strategies
  • Collaborate with parents, school staff, and other coaches to support player development
  • Assist in organizing team events and community outreach activities

Qualifications

  • Prior coaching experience in softball or other sports is preferred
  • Experience working with student-athletes in educational or recreational settings
  • Knowledge of teaching physical education or sports fundamentals is highly desirable
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to motivate young athletes
  • Ability to manage behavior effectively and create an inclusive team environment
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid is preferred but not mandatory; training can be provided if necessary
  • Enthusiasm for youth development through sports and physical activity
