Lead Platform Engineer (Full Time, Direct Hire; Hybrid in Charlotte, NC/Hartford, CN/Branchville, NJ)

Optomi, in partnership with our client, is seeking a highly skilled Lead Platform Engineer to join an Azure-focused platform engineering team that's building the next generation of cloud-native infrastructure. This role centers around platform enablement, automation, and developer experience — not one-off application delivery. You'll design reusable patterns, modernize DevOps pipelines, and help drive the transition from traditional cloud operations toward a true Azure platform engineering model.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and support Azure cloud platforms used by multiple product teams across the organization.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and Bicep, enabling repeatable, scalable provisioning.
  • Modernize and integrate DevOps pipelines across Harness, GitHub Actions, and Azure DevOps, improving automation and developer velocity.
  • Partner with engineering teams to integrate cloud-native applications into standardized CI/CD workflows.
  • Contribute to platform enablement initiatives — reusable modules, templates, and self-service deployment models.
  • Support adoption of Kubernetes and containerized workloads (AKS, Docker).
  • Ensure the platform is secure, scalable, and cost-efficient; collaborate with security and architecture teams as needed.
  • Act as a technical lead — guiding others in platform best practices, automation, and cloud architecture decisions.
  • Support application and DevSecOps integration efforts across multiple business lines.

  • Strong background in Azure Cloud Services (compute, networking, storage, IAM, Key Vault, App Services).
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and Bicep).
  • Skilled in CI/CD automation using Harness, GitHub Actions, and/or Azure DevOps.
  • Familiar with containerization and orchestration (Docker, AKS).
  • Proficient in Git and version-controlled automation workflows.
  • Scripting experience with PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
  • Excellent understanding of platform engineering principles — developer enablement, standardization, and reusable patterns.
  • Azure certification(s) strongly preferred.
