Job Summary:

The Program Manager (PM) oversees the day-to-day execution of modeling, simulation, and Mixed Reality training programs in support of the Department of Defense (DoD) and commercial customers, ensuring on-time, within-budget delivery that meets technical and customer expectations. Serving as the primary customer interface, the PM leads cross-functional teams across software development, logistics, and instructional design; manages program performance, cost, and quality; and ensures alignment with contractual objectives. This role also supports business growth through proactive customer engagement, identification of new opportunities, and continuous improvement of program execution.

Key Responsibilities:

· Develop and maintain comprehensive program management plans, including schedules, budgets, and resource allocations.

· Manage overall program execution to ensure objectives are achieved on time and within budget.

· Coordinate the activities of project personnel and cross-functional teams to maintain progress and adherence to the schedule and prescribed budget.

· Identify, analyze, and communicate variances from the plan in a timely manner.

· Develop and maintain accurate risk tracking documentation with associated mitigation plans.

· Ensure compliance with program metrics, milestones, and deliverables.

· Apply familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM) principles as needed.

· Provide required monthly reports to Vertex leadership and the customer on program performance metrics, achievements, opportunities, and challenges.

· Develop and manage a process for regularly gathering and coordinating user feedback with Government stakeholders and Vertex developers.

· Schedule, organize, and lead progress meetings with Government stakeholders, site managers, and Vertex senior management, taking appropriate actions as required.

· Manage customer relationships and expectations, ensuring clear communication, responsiveness, and customer satisfaction.

· Interface independently with customers, key company partners, and other project stakeholders.

· Coordinate with corporate and vendor support groups, including finance, contracting, hardware, software, network, cybersecurity, instructional design, and graphic arts, to support defined deliverables.

· Oversee all program logistics, including requirements, inventory, shipping, and receiving.

· Manage P&L responsibility for assigned programs, where applicable.

· Ensure resource readiness, team alignment, and compliance with internal processes and quality standards.

· Provide leadership and oversight of direct and indirect personnel, scaling and aligning team resources as required to meet contract objectives.

· Foster a collaborative, solution-oriented environment across distributed project teams.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Minimum of 5 years' Project or Program Management experience within or for the DoD or related customers.
  • Strong understanding of accounting and finance as they relate to program management.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to assess needs, identify issues, and recommend effective solutions.
  • Proven ability to create accurate, high-quality program artifacts and documentation with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex topics clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across distributed, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Customer service-focused mindset with a proactive approach to issue resolution and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative, team-oriented environment using sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple, simultaneous deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and adapt to shifting priorities while maintaining quality and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task effectively and balance competing priorities with limited supervision.
  • Master's degree; Computer Science or related discipline.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Profit and Loss (P&L) experience for engineering and/or software development.
  • Understanding of learning technology ecosystems, including utilization of VR/MR simulations.
  • Experience with integrated military, government, and civilian training simulation development and delivery, particularly for aircrew.

Work Environment:This position is based in a professional office environment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time, exempt position. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the core work hours of Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel:

Approximately 5–10% travel is expected to support employees and customers at base locations and to participate in occasional business development activities (e.g. trade show events) as needed.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance:

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire. Background checks- criminal, civil, employment, and education required. Drug screening in compliance with drug-free workplace standards. Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Clearance.
