Youth Transition Services Facilitator for Youth with Disabilities

Position Summary: The Youth Transition Services Facilitator for Youth with Disabilities assists teens and young adults with disabilities, ages 14 to 22, to acquire knowledge, skills and supports necessary to prepare for a fulfilling, self-directed life after high school. Working as part BCIL's Transition to Adulthood Program (TAP) and Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) Programs, the Youth Transition Services Facilitator will be responsible for working with students individually as well as in groups in school classrooms throughout our service area, in the BCIL office, or remotely, through online video meeting platforms. Services provided include information and referral, peer mentoring, advocacy, skills training, and other supportive services. This position requires consistent in-person presence in order to most effectively work with students, as well as to collaborate other team members and school educators.
The Boston Center for Independent Living (BCIL) is a frontline civil rights organization led by people with disabilities that advocates to eliminate discrimination, isolation, and segregation. Our mission is to enhance the independence and inclusion of people with disabilities through advocacy, information and referral, peer support, skills training, PCA, and transitional services.
Responsibilities:
· Provides peer mentoring, skills training, information and referral, and advocacy to teens and young adults with disabilities individually or in groups.
· May meet with students and families/guardians, individually, to develop service plans.
· Delivers workshops and classes according to lesson plans provided.
· Leads/co-facilitates community-based observations, employer site tours and other events.
· Provides 1:1 or small group planning and/or instructional sessions. Manages group dynamics and ensures that environment and facilitation strategies are supportive to all learners.
· Ensures timely and thorough data collection and reporting (WILD, Statistical reports and Pre-ETS Student Progress Notes and other reports, as required)
· Serves as a role model for young adults with disabilities
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
Desired qualifications:
· Member of the population to be served or extensive experience in a school or independent living setting.
· Commitment to independent living philosophy essential.
· Experience and/or willingness to work with and learn from youth with a wide range of disabilities; ability to establish a mentoring connection with consumers.
· Bi-lingual in Spanish; Mandarin; Vietnamese a plus.
· Willingness to further knowledge through trainings and workshops throughout employment.
· Strong oral, written, listening, and time-management skills and ability to take direction and follow through on assigned tasks. Strong computer skills and the ability to enter data and complete reports.
· Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.
· Creativity and ability to work as a member of a team.
· Ability to model clear professional boundaries, social skills, and work etiquette.
· Commitment to independent living philosophy.
· Ability to travel throughout BCIL service area (driver's license not required) and meet with consumers in their home or other settings.
Equipment Operated:
Computers, copier, scanner, Microsoft Office, printer, and other office equipment/programs.
Working Environment:
The office area is a shared workspace. Verbal communication can be heard from other staff in adjoining areas. The job responsibilities of this position will primarily be conducted in schools and the community. A presence in the office is required. Some remote work may be allowable, as arranged in advance, in consultation with your supervisor.
Hours
40 Hours – Full Time
Compensation:
· 2 weeks paid vacation (increases with length of service)
· 2 personal days /13 holidays / 12 sick days
· Health, dental, and vision (75% paid by agency). Short-term disability, long-term disability, and group life insurance 100% are company paid.
· Optional HSA medical and dependent care accounts, critical care insurance, and additional life insurance available (employee paid).
· 403(B) Retirement plan available.
Salary: $44, $46,000.00 per year
