Job Summary
The Supervisor of Training for Operations Transportation will assist the Superintendent(s) and Director of the department in planning, administering, and supervising Training Operations and support staff. The Training Supervisor will also act as the Superintendent when necessary to ensure the safety of passengers and employees by enforcing the Authority's standards and policies.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Participate in the onboarding, training, and transition to the Operation process for new hires.
- Use manual and computerized record-keeping systems to:
- Monitor the availability and performance of Training personnel.
- Support additional workforce to cover unscheduled events and emergencies.
- Oversee and supervise the instructor team, ensuring that all comply with all MBTA policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Collaborate and maintain effective relationships with supervisors and other personnel within and outside the Operations department.
- Attend all meetings as scheduled.
- Ensure instructors' training, recertification, and/or professional development remain up to date.
- Will work nights and weekends to monitor, expedite, and control Training - Operations Transportation activities.
- Participate in the recruitment, training, discipline, and promotion of personnel.
- Drive a company or personal vehicle, including revenue vehicles for non-revenue purposes, to visit
- work sites and to assist in emergencies and/or events as needed while abiding by the Authority's Non-revenue Policy.
- Maximize the use of MBTA equipment and staffing resources while minimizing unnecessary costs.
- Must be familiar with the MBTA Safety Plan and the Safety Management System (SMS).
- Review and supervise the preparation of various daily/weekly/monthly reports.
- Perform analysis of labor work rules and practices seeking to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of personnel.
- Maintain schedules in a computerized schedule database, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
- May be required to work different shifts as assigned by the superintendent and assume the superintendent's duties as directed.
- Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.

Supervision
- Team of instructors within the department.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
- Five (5) years of experience in public transit field operations
- Hold a current full-time status.
- One (1) year supervisory and/or lead experience.
- Have a valid driver's license in accordance with MBTA policy.
- Effective organizational and analytical skills.
- Have the ability to use Word and Excel databases, PeopleSoft, Knack, Cornerstone, and SharePoint applications.
- Have excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
- Have the ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.
- Must be familiar with and able to implement MBTA rules, policies, and special orders.
- Successful applicants must have the English language skills required for the effective performance of the position.
Preferred Experience And Skills
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Business, Transportation, or a related field.
- Two (2) years of transit supervisory experience.
- Experience working as a substitute transportation supervisor.
- Experience as a per-formed Instructor, Dispatcher, or Chief Inspector/Inspector.
Minimum Education
- A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution.

- Ability to commute to assigned work locations in the Boston, MA metro area, as required by the role.

- Ability to uphold the rights and interests of the MBTA while building and maintaining effective relationships with employees and co-workers.

- Ability to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, comprehensive background screening, and / or medical Clinic screening, potentially including physical examination and drug and alcohol screenings.
- Ability to work all shifts and / or locations assigned, directed, or necessary for this position, including (for some transit / operations roles) up to twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week as necessary to accommodate severe weather conditions, emergencies, or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service.
- Intern / co-op staff must be enrolled full or part-time in an accredited educational program and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for the entire duration of the internship / co-op. Additionally, interns / co-ops must have valid work authorization and U.S. Social Security Number prior to starting their positions and throughout the duration of their program.
