Richmond Heights, Virginia, United States Pillar and Peacock Full time $60,000 - $90,000 per year

About Pillar & Peacock

Pillar & Peacock is an interior design firm dedicated to synthesizing beauty and function. Our name reflects our commitment to both exquisite design and precise planning: Pillar, for architectural fundamentals that yield functionality, and Peacock, for flourishes of bold beauty. Our projects include residential and commercial spaces, new home construction, renovations, additions, multi-family complexes, offices, and interior-design only projects. We're driven by the firm belief that design should be an authentic reflection of you. To achieve this, we begin every partnership by dedicating time to develop a clear understanding of the motivation behind your project, as well as your style, budget, and goals to make sure our design comfortably fits your criteria. Pillar & Peacock's personalized, collaborative approach ensures not only seamless roll-outs, but also completed projects that stand the test of time--- intuitive, beautiful, visionary spaces that simply work, not just today, but always.

We're a collaborative, detail-driven design studio with offices in Virginia and Alabama, and we're looking for an Interior Designer II to join our growing team.

Position Overview

The Interior Designer II plays a vital role in shaping and executing high-end residential projects from concept through completion. This position is ideal for a technically skilled, design-savvy professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is ready to take ownership of smaller projects or serve as a strong contributor on larger teams.

You'll develop detailed construction documents, manage FF&E selections, coordinate with vendors and contractors, and support client presentations — all while bringing creativity, precision, and initiative to every phase of the design process. This is an excellent opportunity for a designer looking to deepen their project experience and grow into greater leadership within a respected design firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead small residential projects or provide strong design and technical support on larger ones.
  • Produce detailed construction documents, including plans, elevations, and specifications.
  • Develop advanced drawings for custom millwork, cabinetry, and built-ins.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and clients, managing communication and approvals.
  • Select and specify finishes, fixtures, furnishings, and materials aligned with design intent and client goals.
  • Review and approve purchase orders for accuracy and budget compliance.
  • Manage FF&E sourcing, pricing, and procurement through Design Manager or similar software.
  • Review shop drawings, material submittals, and samples for accuracy and consistency.
  • Support client presentations with strong visual and verbal communication.
  • Contribute to construction administration tasks, including site visits and punch lists.
  • Stay current on products, materials, and innovations to inform design decisions.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to Design Assistants and junior team members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of residential interior design experience.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign), Microsoft Office, and Mac OS.
  • Familiarity with SketchUp and design management software preferred.
  • Strong understanding of FF&E, kitchen and bath design, and construction standards.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Detail-oriented, creative, and passionate about design excellence.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle for travel between offices and project sites.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Based in Richmond, VA or Florence, AL, with occasional travel between offices and to project sites.
  • Requires comfort working both independently and collaboratively with teams across multiple locations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and work on a computer.
  • Ability to review drawings and material samples, lift up to 25 pounds, and conduct site visits.
  • Comfortable communicating with clients, vendors, and colleagues in person and virtually.
