The Director, Data Engineering is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining large-scale data infrastructure for our Marketing team across a variety of systems to ensure data solutions support growth, strategy analytics, campaign optimization, and patient journey analysis.  This position may also be responsible for leading an engineering/analyst team.How you'll make us better: Partner with Marketing stakeholders to understand business questions and define data requirementsReview raw data sources across various systems to map, clean, and prepare datasets for analyticsReverse engineer stored procedures and ETL processes to document and replicate key business logicBuild and optimize SQL queries, transformations, and stored procedures for performance and accuracyDevelop repeatable, documented processes for creating marketing and business datasetsBuild and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines Profile and validate data to ensure it reflects business realities and can be trusted for strategic decision-makingDeliver ad-hoc investigative data analysis to answer urgent marketing and business questionsSupport the ongoing migration to AI platforms while delivering near-term solutions from existing systemsEstablish best practices for data engineering, ensuring scalable and maintainable solutionsYour special skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Solid written and oral communication skillsAbility to connect technical data work directly to marketing and business KPIsPrerequisites for success:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field requiredTen (10) years of SQL development and data engineering experience required; marketing analytics or customer data environments preferredTwo (2) years of experience supervising a data engineering teamExperience working with stored procedures, reverse engineering business logic, and curating disorganized datasets into analytics-ready formatsExperience building and maintaining ETL/ELT data pipelines from multiple, disparate sourcesExperience working with stakeholders to understand business needs and translating them into robust, analytics-ready datasetsExpert knowledge of Microsoft SQL ServerAdvanced knowledge of raw data analysis, mapping, and transformationStrong knowledge of one of the following cloud environments with a focus on data engineering activities; Azure, GCP, or AWS Strong knowledge of data modeling and data architecture conceptsStrong knowledge of reverse engineering existing code and processesWe saved the best for last.In exchange for the dynamic contribution you'll bring to our team, we offer:Competitive salary Medical, dental, vision and life insurance Short and long-term disability coverage 401(k) plan 3 weeks paid time off in your first year + paid holidays Discounts on braces and clear aligners for you and your family members Why Smile Doctors?As the nation's leading Orthodontic Support Organization, Smile Doctors is shaping the future of orthodontics through strategic partnerships with top local doctors.
