Summary:

Yuba Sutter Eye Care (YSEC) is excited to announce an opportunity for an Ophthalmic Technician to join our dedicated clinical team. We are seeking compassionate, motivated, and detail-oriented individuals who are passionate about delivering exceptional patient care in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of patient care. This position requires a commitment to professionalism, accuracy, and teamwork while supporting both new and returning patients through their exam and treatment processes.

The Ophthalmic Technician supports the patient journey by performing essential clinical testing, preparing patients for exams, and assisting providers with diagnostic procedures. This role requires anticipating the needs of both patients and physicians, maintaining a positive and professional demeanor, and always ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Essential Functions:

  • Greet patients in a pleasant and professional manner
  • Obtain and document patient history in the EHR
  • Complete pre-exam testing (A/R, visual acuity, pupil assessment, IOPs, motility, dilation, etc.)
  • Perform diagnostic testing such as OCT, fundus photography, slit-lamp images, and visual fields
  • Sanitize and maintain exam rooms according to clinical protocols
  • Communicate effectively with fellow technicians to maintain efficient patient flow

Auxiliary Functions:

  • Direct patient questions about diagnoses or results to the physician
  • Monitor, stock, and maintain exam and procedure rooms
  • Assist providers in satellite locations as needed
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support clinic operations

  • Knowledge of clinical testing equipment and proper testing procedures
  • Understanding of departmental policies and the ability to ensure consistency within the team
  • Strong interpersonal skills with employees at all levels

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of patient and organizational information
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a well-organized work area

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with flexibility and initiative in a team environment
  • COT certification preferred but not required

Physical Requirements/Typical Working Conditions Environment: Primarily a temperature-controlled facility.

  • Work performed in a temperature-controlled clinical setting
  • Prolonged standing with some bending, stretching, and lifting up to 30 lbs
  • Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination for equipment operation
  • Normal hearing and vision required to perform clinical and communication tasks
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, twist, kneel, squat, and reach throughout the shift

Essential Physical Tasks

  • Sight – sufficient to read physical documents, and images on a computer monitor
  • Smell – sufficient to discern smoke/something burning, and other odors
  • Hear – sufficient to hold face to face/telephone/video call conversations, and to discern other ambient noises
  • Touch – sufficient to operate keyboard, mouse, other standard office equipment, and writing implements
  • Physical ability/strength – sufficient to lift, twist, turn, reach, climb, kneel, squat, sit, walk, stand, bend as needed throughout a standard shift
