For more info about GreenChoice, visit: www.greenchoice.co Role Description We are seeking a Nutrition Scientist to help advance the science that powers GreenChoice’s Food GreenScore® and dietary attribute system. This role is ideal for an experienced nutrition scientist or retail dietitian leader who is confident in applying scientific research to rule-based food scoring systems, making evidence-based decisions, and producing concise outputs that can be implemented by our engineering team and communicated to retailers. This is a contract-to-hire role, meaning there is the potential for this role to turn from part-time contract work into a full-time position.  As Nutrition Scientist, you will: Lead updates to our scoring algorithms (nutrition, processing, safety) based on the latest Dietary Guidelines, peer-reviewed research, and regulatory standards.Define new attributes (e.g., “Heart Healthy”) including criteria, thresholds, and citations.Evaluate and critique existing scoring systems (e.g., Food Compass, Nutri-Score, Health Star Rating, OptUP) and help articulate GreenChoice’s differentiation.Produce concise, implementation-ready documentation (criteria, thresholds, rules, citations) for engineers and customer-facing materials.Collaborate with the Science Advisory Board and Lead Data Scientist while also working independently and decisively.  Qualifications Required: Master’s or PhD in Nutrition Science, Public Health, or related field8+ years of experience in nutrition science, nutrition research, food retail, or program developmentStrong familiarity with nutrition/health scoring systems and labeling programs (e.g., NOVA, Food Compass, Nutri-Score, Guiding Stars, OptUP)Demonstrated ability to translate complex nutrition research into clear rules, criteria, and guidanceExcellent communication skills (able to brief retailers, write citations, and present findings concisely)Comfort making evidence-based decisions without needing constant data science supportMastery of regulatory frameworks (FDA, USDA, AHA, etc.)  Preferred: PhD in Nutrition ScienceExperience designing or refining nutrition or food health scoring algorithmsRegistered Dietitian (RD)Experience with startups, innovation programs, or applied researchProficiency with data and statistical analysis  Compensation & Benefits Competitive rate; 20hr/weekEquity options availableFlexible schedulingTrust based sick policyWork directly with the CEO, Head of Engineering, Lead Data Scientist, and Science Advisory BoardOpportunity to shape the science behind technology already in use by grocery retailers nationwide  Why Join Us Be part of a mission-driven company tackling one of the most pressing challenges of our time: making healthy, sustainable food choices easy and accessible.Shape the algorithms and science powering the Food GreenScore® — influencing how millions of people shop and eat.Gain visibility as a leader at the intersection of nutrition science, retail, and food technology.
