About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer (TypeScript - Back-End) who thrives in product development environments and enjoys working close to the hardware layer. This is not an enterprise IT or banking software role - this is a hands-on opportunity to build the technology that powers connected communication products used across the globe.

You'll join a cross-functional engineering team that's developing next-generation products combining embedded systems, firmware, and cloud-connected back-end services. The ideal candidate is a deep TypeScript developer who loves solving system-level problems, collaborates effectively, and communicates clearly across disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable back-end services in TypeScript / Node.js for cloud-connected and embedded technology platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with embedded software and hardware teams to integrate back-end systems with device firmware.
  • Architect middleware and API layers that bridge software and hardware ecosystems.
  • Work within Linux-based environments, optimizing system performance, reliability, and deployment.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD automation, code quality controls, and performance monitoring tools.
  • Participate in cross-functional technical reviews and product design discussions with global teams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in architecture, tooling, and documentation.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a focus on TypeScript and Node.js back-end development.
  • Proven ability to design and deploy high-performance back-end services that integrate with hardware or embedded systems.
  • Strong understanding of software design principles, asynchronous programming, and modular architecture.
  • Experience working with Linux environments, modern CI/CD pipelines, and cloud technologies (AWS preferred).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional and remote team environments.
  • Prior experience working successfully remote with distributed engineering teams.
Preferred Experience
  • Exposure to IoT, firmware integration, or hardware-interfacing systems.
  • Experience with AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, API Gateway, or serverless architecture.
  • Familiarity with REST and GraphQL API design patterns.
  • Background in middleware or systems bridging embedded and cloud layers.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Compensation: $135,000 - $160,000 annually, commensurate with experience and location.
  • Employment Type: Full-time, exempt.
  • Benefits: Comprehensive package including health, dental, vision, paid time off, and 401(k).
  • Work Environment: Fully remote or hybrid, depending on candidate preference and proximity to Midwest HQ.
