We are seeking a dedicated and visionary Director of Engineering to oversee and own the strategy and development of our engineering department.

Position Summary:

The Director of Engineering will be responsible for aligning with the executive team's vision with the technical strategy, mentoring the engineering team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality products, and fostering a culture of innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement. In concert with the CEO and CTO, this position oversees all engineering efforts, drives innovation, and ensures the delivery of high-quality technology solutions.

This is an office-based position located in Houston, Texas, with quarterly travel to India required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Define and communicate the technical vision and strategy for engineering
    • Align engineering efforts with the company's overall business goals
    • Identify and evaluate emerging technologies and trends
    • Develop and implement engineering processes and best practices
    • Work cross-functionally to collaborate with product, engineering, and customer success teams to ensure alignment on customer feedback, feature requests, and product development priorities
    • Act as a key liaison between the CEO, CTO and product teams to ensure the right solutions are delivered.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Maintain a strong understanding of software engineering principles, architecture, and system design.
    • Stay up-to-date on the latest technologies and trends.
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.
    • Conduct technical reviews and provide feedback on code quality and architecture.
  • Operational Efficiency:
    • Optimize engineering processes and workflows.
    • Manage R&D costs and ensure efficient resource allocation.
    • Monitor and measure key performance indicators (KPIs).
    • Identify and address bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
  • Team Leadership and Management:
    • Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of engineers, including directors, managers, and development teams.
    • Foster a collaborative and high-performing engineering culture.
    • Provide engineer individual and team lead performance feedback and conduct regular reviews to maximize quality and speed of output.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related field, such as engineering or computer science. A master's degree with a focus on engineering management or technology management is preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years of engineering management experience, with 5+ years in a leadership role. Experience managing SaaS from inception through launch and iteration. Experience managing cross-functional teams including product and engineering in a high-growth, early-stage environment is desirable.
