The City of St. Petersburg Engineering & Capital Improvements Department is one of 171 American Public Works Association (APWA) certified agencies in the nation and the second largest certified agency in the Nation. We continue to grow, delivering award winning projects such as the internationally recognized new St. Pete Pier, Sustainable Sanitation Department Administration Building, as well as awards for infrastructure upgrades and sustainability. The Engineering & Capital Improvements Department will be embarking on major infrastructure projects and extensive system capacity upgrades, implementing both the integrated water and wastewater master plan which includes water, wastewater, reclaimed water, and stormwater master plans. Also included in this infrastructure upgrades are roads, bridges, and seawalls, as well as vertical assets such as new Recreation Centers, Police and Fire facilities, and modifications to existing facilities, all focused on resiliency and sustainability.
With such a major replacement and upgrade program, the City of St. Petersburg Engineering & Capital Improvements Department is looking to expand its team to include additional Engineers, Project Managers, Architects, and other essential staff to be part of delivering and advancing its community into a new era.
This is highly responsible professional architectural and administrative work in the planning, directing and implemteitng a capital improvement program for City facilities and property. Work requires the application of architecturalskills and knowledge to manage difficult projects and to supervise technical employees and architects with responsibility for projects relating to municipal improvements, capital improvements project planning, budgeting, estimating and scheduling. Work includes the oversight and directing of employees performing: preliminary project planning and budgeting for future year work programming; the completion of plans and specifications, including cost estimations; location surveys and planning for utilities and street construction; and maintaining engineering related special use maps, charts, graphs, and drawings. Work requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment, initiative, and ingenuity; productive interaction with City officials, other governmental agencies, contractors and the public; the ability to competently and independently manage a workload that may include competing demands and challenging deadlines; the application of professional architectural knowledge in evaluating the cost effectiveness, safety and practicality of construction methods; preparing special reports on projects; conducting public meetings and presentations; representing the city on various technical committees; and providing technical and professional support for all activities, such as preparation of plans, specifications and technical reports.
Salary: $125,242 - $195,088 DOQ

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
- Have a valid Bachelor’s degree in architecture.
- Possess a valid Driver License.
- Possess and maintain registration as a State of Florida Architect.
- Have a minimum of 15 years’ experience in project management and construction administration.
- Be able to manage technical staff and multiple architectural projects.
- Have considerable knowledge of modern architectural methods and techniques as applied to the design, construction and maintenance of various City capital improvement projects.
- Be skilled in the use of a personal computer and computer software to prepare reports, analyses, and studies.
- Have considerable experience making presentations to a variety of stakeholders including professional organizations, community leaders, and the public.
- Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
- Have previous experience managing public utility and capital improvement projects program management related to a government entity.
- Have considerable knowledge of the latest Florida Building standards and the International Building Code.
- Have a minimum of 10 years’ experience managing engineering projects and performing program management as a Registered Architect.
- Have considerable understanding and knowledge of LEED and Green Globe standards
