JOB SUMMARY
Under supervision of a certified school counselor, a counselor internship provides support to students in the instructional process with specific responsibility for providing course curriculum, support, information and recommendations to students and parents. Additionally, they assist in the development of goals and plans for growth, achievement, and well-being. School counseling interns assist school counselors in implementing a comprehensive school counseling program based on district goals and objectives. They assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a school's counseling program to meet the individual and diverse needs of all students through individual planning, guidance curriculum, and responsive services.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Enrolled in an accredited master's level school counseling program.
- Professional communication skills including, but not limited to: excellent written and verbal communications skills; confident, articulate, and professional speaking abilities; and empathetic listening and persuasive speaking skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates and collaborates with teachers and other personnel, resource specialists and/or community (e.g. Courts, child protective services, etc.) for the purpose of providing/receiving requested information and/or making recommendations.
- Counsels students, parents, and guardians to enhance well-being and student success in school.
- Develops a variety of programs for providing information to assist students in difficult situations and successful school transitions.
- Monitors students' progress for the purpose of identifying issues and taking appropriate action for increasing student success.
- Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Prepares a wide variety of materials (e.g. quantity reports, student activities, correspondence, audits, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
- Presents information (e.g. budget overviews, accounting processes, distribution formulas, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.
- Schedules student classes for the purpose of securing appropriate placement and meeting school, district, and/or State requirements.
- Performs essential duties and responsibilities efficiently, accurately, and safely, with or without reasonable accommodation, and without posing a threat of harm to self or others.
- Attendance: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer's sole discretion.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or required to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Risks found in the typical work environment, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations.
- Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work: however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, etc...
