Job Description:

The Network Observability Engineer will play a key role in strengthening the enterprise's network visibility, stability, and automation capabilities. Working alongside the Technology Services Infrastructure team, this position will design, implement, and maintain a robust suite of network monitoring and management tools that provide real-time and historical insight into performance, faults, and availability.

This engineer will leverage both off-the-shelf network management tools and custom-built solutions to optimize network observability, streamline operations through automation, and enhance the performance of a converged data, voice, and video network environment.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Network Infrastructure personnel to identify, deploy, and manage monitoring tools that proactively track network health and performance.

  • Configure and maintain commercial off-the-shelf network management platforms to provide real-time and historical visibility into system performance.

  • Follow formal change control procedures and coordinate with vendors to address software deficiencies or version updates.

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance custom scripts and automation tools to increase operational efficiency and infrastructure observability.

  • Research and resolve network management tool issues that could compromise operational visibility or uptime.

  • Integrate network management solutions with ServiceNow, xMatters, and other enterprise IT platforms.

  • Support API/REST-based integrations and ensure consistent system connectivity across tools.

  • Maintain documentation for tool configurations, system integrations, and automation processes.


Must Haves (Required Qualifications):

  • 3 years' experience managing or developing network management tools and automation scripts.

  • Proficiency with UNIX/RedHat Linux, including basic systems administration.

  • Strong understanding of SNMP MIBs, Syslog, NetFlow, TACACS, SNMP Traps, and alerting workflows.

  • Experience with ServiceNow integrations, xMatters alerting, and automation tools such as Ansible and GitLab.

  • Knowledge of Cisco router/switch configuration, JSON, Perl, and Python scripting.

  • Familiarity with network monitoring and IPAM tools such as ThousandEyes, ScienceLogic, SolarWinds, and Infoblox (NIOS, DDI, DNS, DHCP).

  • Experience with installation, configuration, integrations (API/REST), SSL/certificates, and cloud or virtual network discovery (VMware NSX, AWS Route53, Azure).

  • Working knowledge of databases (MySQL, Postgres, Vertica) and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

  • Understanding of Broadcom/CA DX NetOps suite (Spectrum, Performance Center, Network Flow Analyzer, Virtual Network Assurance, BI).

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently once familiar with the environment.


Nice to Haves (Preferred Skills):

  • Experience with SSL and certificate management in enterprise environments.

  • Advanced automation and API integration development.

  • Familiarity with Data as a Service (DaaS) and hybrid cloud architectures.
