We are on the lookout for a talented embedded software engineer to contribute to the development of control systems for our quantum computers. This role will be pivotal as you will report directly to the Control Systems Manager. We are open to candidates from our locations in Austin, TX and Berkeley, CA, and under exceptional circumstances, we may consider fully remote options.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and rigorously test firmware and software for high-speed arbitrary waveform generation, image processing, instrumentation control, and digital feedback loops.
  • Create and implement embedded device driver APIs, Linux kernel modules, and orchestration functions using Rust, Python, and C/C++.
  • Integrate and validate control system hardware and software, crafting comprehensive test procedures, conducting unit tests, and contributing to overall system testing and debugging.
Required Experience & Education:
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Experimental Physics, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of applicable postgraduate professional experience is essential. We welcome experienced candidates but will not consider recent graduates.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Self-motivated, humble, and collaborative, with a strong tolerance for the fast pace and uncertainty of an early-stage startup.
  • Proficient in programming languages Rust, Python, and C/C++.
  • In-depth experience in embedded Linux and bare metal firmware development for ARM microcontrollers and other embedded microprocessors.
  • Familiarity with Git version control and software development best practices is a must.
  • Hands-on experience integrating, debugging, and testing prototype electronic assemblies.
  • A genuine willingness to learn about atomic, optical, laser physics, and quantum mechanics to enrich your work context.
  • Experience with software-defined radios, Lua programming, and familiarity with digital interfaces for FPGAs are advantageous.

The base salary for this position ranges from $140,000 to $160,000, based on experience, along with an annual bonus and equity in the company.
