Job Description

We are seeking talented Software/DevOps engineers to join a cutting-edge research and development effort focused on modernizing submarine electronics and antisubmarine warfare capabilities. This position is perfect for software engineers with strong prototyping skills, a collaborative mindset, and hands-on experience deploying microservices in Kubernetes environments. Engineers in this role will work alongside subject matter experts in Software Defined Storage and contribute to two parallel prototype efforts—one focused on storage architecture and the other on broader system modernization.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate on the design and development of prototype solutions for submarine system modernization.

• Contribute to whitepapers, trade studies, and requirement definitions.

• Deploy and manage microservices in Kubernetes environments.

• Participate in peer reviews and architecture discussions.

• Support milestone-based deliverables including storage requirements identification, trade study evaluations, prototype demonstrations, performance reporting, and transition planning.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

• 5+ years of relevant software development experience.

• Experience deploying and managing microservices in Kubernetes.

• Experience working with Linux.

• Experience with storage technologies such as NAS, RAID/HBA controllers, and enterprise storage platforms (NetAPP, Pure Storage, IBM Storage, etc.).

• Experience with cloud/container orchestration technologies, particularly as they interface with storage: Kubernetes (CSI drivers, OpenEBS), OpenStack, VMWare, AWS S3, GCP Cloud Storage, Terraform.

• Experience with Agile development practices.

• Eligibility for a US Secret Clearance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with Software Defined technologies such as GlusterFS, Lustre, VMware vSAN, OpenStack Cinder/Swift, NVMe oF.

• Understanding of storage concepts like erasure coding, tiered caching, and data deduplication.

• Experience with Software Defined Storage (SDS), Object Storage, Block Storage, iSCSI/NVMe-oF, Distributed File Systems.

• Knowledge of data tiering or data caching, erasure coding or replication strategies, storage virtualization, performance databases, cloud storage, Swift and/or Cinder, and Infrastructure as Code.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Manassas, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.
