St Petersburg, FL, United States Leidos Full time

Description

The Advanced Warfare Technology Division (AWT) of the Leidos Innovations Center (LInC) is seeking a talented Senior Hardware Design Engineer to join a dynamic multidisciplinary design team. You will play a crucial role in the design, development, simulation, and integration of advanced circuit card designs for DSP and RF sensor systems. This position demands a robust hardware background in high-speed digital circuit design, schematic entry, printed circuit board fabrication, and conduction-cooled circuit card assembly design. You will contribute significantly to the creation of innovative solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to design, test, and integrate complex digital hardware and firmware, focusing on RF sensor applications.
  • Analyze system requirements and translate high-level specifications into actionable hardware requirements.
  • Convert conceptual designs into detailed electrical designs, including schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), and fabrication drawings.
  • Design, develop, and test embedded electronic circuit card assemblies (CCAs) incorporating programmable logic devices, signal processing, and high-speed circuitry.
  • Evaluate schematic diagrams for custom and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) electronic hardware, with a focus on high-speed digital and analog circuits.
  • Simulate designs interfacing with high-speed signaling standards such as SERDES, PLLs, and protocols like PCIe Gen4, JESD204B/C, and LVDS.
  • Select, design, and integrate sensors, electronic modules, and power systems appropriately.
  • Utilize HDL design knowledge (VHDL/Verilog) to create, simulate, and test designs within various logic devices.
  • Conduct experimental tests, evaluate results, and develop specifications for system components.
  • Generate and maintain engineering documentation adhering to configuration management policies.
  • Develop and assist with project test plans and procedures, supporting lab and field testing.
  • Participate in field support planning, including mobilization and demobilization efforts.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and team members to ensure project alignment.
  • Provide regular status reports to project management.
  • Willingness to travel and work at remote sites for limited periods as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in hardware design.
  • Eligibility to obtain a security clearance.
  • Experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with tools and techniques such as:
    • Schematic entry and PCB design tools (Altium, Cadence Allegro/OrCAD, KiCAD, etc.).
    • Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design with parts selection, BOM creation, and high-speed signal routing.
    • HDL design (VHDL/Verilog) and FPGA/CPLD/Microcontroller development.
    • Lab test equipment (Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer).
    • Revision control systems (Git, SVN, etc.).
    • Experience with interfaces like DDRx, ADC/DACs, and PCIe.
    • Hands-on lab testing and integration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • Current Secret clearance or above.
  • Experience across various phases of the product development lifecycle.
  • Proficiency in designing and troubleshooting electronic circuits, including digital, analog, and RF subsystems.
  • Experience with high-speed PCB design and DSP fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of simulation and validation tools and testbench generation (VHDL/SystemVerilog).
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Perl, TCL, Python).
  • Understanding of high-speed protocols like JESD204B and PCIe.
  • Experience with digital signal processing (DSP) tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.
  • C/C++ development for embedded systems.
