Technical Requirements:
  • Strong experience with Python, Apache Airflow, Oracle Database, PL/SQL, and Stored Procedures
  • Must have experience using a job scheduling tool (RunMyJob preferred; Autosys or others acceptable)
  • Previous work in modernizing legacy systems is highly desirable
Project Overview:
  • The team is modernizing a large codebase consisting of 700-800 legacy Perl scripts interacting with Oracle DB
  • Goal is to replace these scripts with a more maintainable, testable solution using Python and Apache Airflow
  • Scripts must be assessed, tested, updated, and migrated
Additional Notes:
  • Financial services experience is a plus but not required
  • Expect to automate and streamline existing processes
  • Will work closely with database and infrastructure teams
Job Description:

We're seeking an experienced Python Developer to lead the automation and orchestration of complex data workflows. You'll play a key role in replacing legacy Perl/PLSQL scheduling logic with modern, Python-based DAG orchestration using Apache Airflow.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain Python-based automation scripts for jobs on Oracle 19c
  • Design and implement Apache Airflow DAGs for ETL workflow management
  • Migrate existing scheduling logic from Perl, RunMyJob, and PL/SQL into modular, observable Airflow pipelines
  • Build custom Airflow operators/sensors to integrate with Oracle, REST APIs, file systems (SFTP/FTP), and external triggers
  • Implement robust error handling, alerting, and retry logic
  • Work with DBAs and application teams to understand dependencies, critical paths, and data lineage
  • Establish logging, audit trails, and SLA monitoring
  • Contribute to code reviews and documentation
Required Skills & Experience:
  • 5+ years of Python development focused on automation and orchestration
  • 2+ years working with Apache Airflow in a production environment
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle 19c, SQL tuning, and PL/SQL
  • Hands-on experience with job schedulers like RunMyJob, Autosys, or similar
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills (logs, databases, filesystems)
  • Experience with REST APIs, SFTP/FTP, and parameter-driven workflows
Bonus / Preferred Experience:
  • Experience modernizing from Perl or PL/SQL
  • Knowledge of Git/Bitbucket, Jenkins, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Exposure to financial data models (e.g., NAVs, holdings, transactions, tax lots)
  • Understanding of data governance, audit, and risk considerations in financial systems
