GIS System Administrator

GFT is seeking a GIS Systems Administrator to support a variety of projects in the Mid-Atlantic Region. This role follows a hybrid work model, or can be fully remote.
What you'll be challenged to do:
The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing, configuring, and implementing complex IT and GIS systems that meet the needs of our clients. The position's focus will be to support the GIS / Cloud infrastructure, providing reliable access to GIS applications and solutions; ensuring that GIS environments are consistently administered and reliably accessible for use; utilizing best practices regarding system architecture and configuration. The successful candidate needs to have a strong technical background with extensive experience in GIS architecture, cloud environments, database servers, and system operations.
This is an excellent opportunity to join and enhance a diverse team that is currently working on a wide range of energizing IT and geospatially based data analytics, data visualization, asset management, and automated decision support-oriented projects across the country in several industries, including transportation, water, and energy.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Install, configure, maintain, and support Enterprise GIS software and hardware (e.g., ArcGIS Server, Portal).
- Architect efficient solutions and Enterprise GIS / Cloud environments to meet client requirements.
- Participate in consultation meetings with clients on their GIS and cloud system needs.
- Work with team members on projects to identify, design, develop, configure, and implement environments in support of new or existing applications in enterprise environments.
- Effectively communicate the capabilities and limitations of GIS and cloud technology.
- Create and manage Enterprise Geodatabases; troubleshoot technical issues with GIS / Cloud environments.
- Manage user accounts, access controls, and security protocols.
- Perform system backups and disaster recovery procedures.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Serve as a technical advisor to optimize system performance, with a focus on backend infrastructure support, security, and scalability.
- Provide technical support to internal team members and clients on GIS software and applications.
- Document procedures and maintain clear technical documentation.
- Monitor and report on the performance of the GIS, cloud, and security infrastructure, providing recommendations for improvements and upgrades.
- Incorporate security and privacy requirements into cloud hardware, software, and applications.
What you bring to our firm:
- This position requires a bachelor's degree in GIS, Computer Science, Geography, or related field, (or equivalent professional experience).
- Minimum of 8+ years' experience in system administration.
- Minimum of 5+ years GIS experience in ESRI suite of software.
- Knowledge and administrative experience with ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise (Server, Portal, Web Adaptors, Data stores, etc.).
- Experience with management and configuration of multi-environment setups (Dev, Test, Prod).
- Proven experience managing cloud infrastructure: Notably Azure and AWS.
- Familiarity with operating system administration, virtualization technologies, and network security.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.
- Solid understanding of cloud networking concepts, subnets, routing, load balancing, firewalls, and cloud security.
What we prefer you bring:
- Experience in the transportation industry, water industry, energy industry, or similar industries.
- Applicable ESRI or AWS or Azure certifications; willingness to obtain certifications (generally company sponsored).
- Knowledge and experience with SQL Server and Oracle administration.
- Management of SDE enterprise geodatabases.
- Experience in logging, monitoring, and observability tools.
- Experience deploying geoprocessing services.
- Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Trimble's CityWorks product.
- Experience installing, configuring, and using Safe Softwares FME product.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
Compensation:
The Salary range for this position is $90,000-$125,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
