Job Summary

This role is essential for providing treatment to patients as per physician orders and departmental policies. You will work autonomously in acute and critical care environments, collaborating with physicians and healthcare personnel to recommend appropriate treatments. Candidates must be skilled in treating patients across all age groups, including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

Accountabilities

• Independently perform respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures as directed, adhering to departmental policy and guidelines - 20%
• Accurately obtain and analyze blood gas samples, ensuring precise reporting - 10%
• Manage invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation for patients - 20%
• Initiate and handle airways and related equipment effectively - 10%
• Document all procedures and tasks accurately; educate patients and families as necessary - 10%
• Communicate effectively with the healthcare team and provide comprehensive handovers - 10%
• Follow infection control and quality protocols, ensuring proper equipment cleaning and sterilization - 10%
• Utilize resources responsibly, maintaining efficiency with supplies and time - 10%

Supervisory/Management Responsibility

This position is non-management and reports to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program or eligible for licensure in South Carolina, or currently a senior student graduating within the next three months.

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses

Must be licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in South Carolina, eligible for licensure, or a senior student graduating soon. BLS certification is required. NBRC credentials must be maintained. Employees hired prior to June 2016 may hold Certified Respiratory Therapist credentials. Those hired after June 2016 must pass the Therapist Multiple Choice Exam at the Registered Therapist cut score and take the Clinical Simulation Exam within six months of graduation. Failure to pass the Clinical Simulation Exam during this timeframe will result in termination from Prisma Health.

NRP and PALS certifications are required for work in the Children's Hospital, specifically before independent work in NICU and PICU.

Other Required Skills and Experience

Strong teamwork, communication, computer, and organizational skills are essential.
