The expected salary range for this role is $114,300 to $127,000, depending on experience.
LOCATION
This remote position requires up to 60% travel, primarily supporting projects in the Mid-Atlantic region. Candidates should reside in this area for ease of client site visits and other travel commitments. Occasional travel to our Warrendale, PA office and other locations may be necessary for teamwork and meetings.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Lead Development Engineer plays a critical role in developing Infrastructure Renewal and Building Upgrade projects centered on energy efficiency and sustainability. Working under the guidance of leadership, you will identify and drive viable energy services and asset projects throughout the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Federal sectors. You will also support our sales efforts by nurturing relationships and providing technical expertise.
Primary Duties and Accountabilities
- Conducts ASHRAE level I, II & III energy audits at customer facilities to identify energy-saving opportunities and prepares detailed proposals.
- Utilizes technical expertise to create preliminary designs and cost estimates for energy-saving initiatives.
- Leads engineering tasks for complex projects, focusing on large-scale lighting and water conservation projects, ensuring quality in third-party designs.
- Employs energy modeling software to facilitate building analysis and project planning.
- Coordinates with various stakeholders to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and meet project goals.
- Promotes a culture of safety by ensuring compliance and encouraging safe work practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline (electrical, mechanical, or similar).
- Five years of experience in consulting engineering, design-build, or energy services.
- Proven experience in managing complex energy conservation projects in construction and retrofit scenarios.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, automation systems, and processes in commercial, industrial, governmental, and healthcare environments.
- Proficient in applying engineering principles and structured problem-solving methods.
- Adept at analyzing complex electrical and mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with relevant construction standards and codes.
- Experience with project life cycle cost analysis processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing.
- Must maintain a valid driver's license and be eligible for government facility access.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineering (PE) license, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), and/or LEED Accreditation.
- Skilled in performing load calculations and energy analyses with industry-standard modeling software (e.g., EnergyPlus, eQuest).
- Experience in developing energy conservation programs for the Federal Government and familiarity with Measurement and Verification guidelines.
- Knowledge of renewable energy technologies, including solar PV, battery storage systems, and large-scale energy projects.
