Automation / Controls Systems Engineer

HGA is seeking a Automation / Controls Systems Engineer to support a major midstream client's capital project expansion across West Texas, Midland, and New Mexico. This role requires a highly skilled engineer with deep technical expertise in PLC, HMI, and DCS platforms, along with a strong understanding of process functionality, control logic configuration, and system implementation. The position will focus on integrating and supporting advanced control systems to enhance operational safety, reliability, and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Configure, program, and troubleshoot control systems including PLCs, HMIs, and DCS platforms.

  • Implement and test new process control templates and configurations to support capital project expansion.

  • Read, interpret, and develop process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), electrical schematics, Cause & Effect Diagrams, and control narratives.

  • Apply knowledge of loop tuning, regulatory and discrete control, and safety system standards to ensure system integrity and compliance.

  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and contractor teams to deliver reliable control system functionality.

  • Oversee contractor support, ensuring quality and adherence to project schedules and safety protocols.

  • Provide field-based control system support in West Texas and New Mexico as needed (up to 60% travel).

  • Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, both verbally and in writing.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a minimum of 10 years of controls-related experience required.

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience implementing process control systems in processing or industrial plants.

  • Extensive knowledge of industry standards for control system documentation, loop design, and system configuration.

  • Strong proficiency with Allen Bradley PLCs; experience with Honeywell Experion DCS and Triconex Safety Systems highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects independently.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and safely climb ladders as required for field assignments.

  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically up to 60%.
