The Athletic Trainer Position works both in CT Orthopaedics clinics and in some cases, schools as well. This position plays a critical role in CT Orthopaedics Operations division and is responsible for a variety of functions including: performing ergonomic job analysis and training for the facility, treating patients for work conditioning and work hardening specific to job related demands, and developing physical demands assessments for all positions.

Essential Responsibilities:

If working in clinic only:

Perform ergonomic job analysis, including task analysis, risk factor identification and quantification, and body mechanics analysis for all departments
Develop and maintain Physical Demand Assessments for all positions
Implement/maintain exercise program for facility to include Work Conditioning exercise for New Hires
Use innovation, creative solutions and employee empowerment to design and/or implement ergonomic interventions such as, job rotation, exercise programs, and training and education.
(Create) Monitor the effectiveness of the Industrial Athlete Program and suggest improvements as necessary to the Training Manager.
Monitor employees who are in conservative treatment or return to work to include the restricted work activity, and ergonomic interventions.
Through investigation, aid in the determination of causality for alleged occupational illnesses.

If including part of school contract

Treat and rehabilitate athletes to return them to full activity levels.
Conduct pre-season screening and conditioning to prevent injuries during competitions
Administer first aid and emergency techniques; applies tape, bandages, braces and padding to injuries.
Recommend new or modified care treatment; document treatments, referrals and injury reports.
Determines methods for educating both athletes and coaching staff on proper training, techniques and modalities.
In conjunction with the team physician, determines when an athlete has completed a rehabilitation program and can resume an appropriate level of activity
Travels with and/or oversee assigned varsity sports teams.
Perform other duties as assigned by their supervisor.

Skills and Abilities:

Excellent customer service skills, interpersonal, and communication skills
Excellent documentation and communication skills
Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office and experience with electronic medical record systems
Able to trouble shoot, strong sense of decision making and judgment; action oriented; approachable
Team player and effective at building and fostering teamwork as well as maintaincomposure when dealing with conflict, thoughtful of others, courteous
Active listening skills and able to adapt to change
Effectively manages time, timely decision making, and manage priorities

Experience/Educational requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
Previous experience in outpatient setting preferred
Connecticut Athletic Trainer license required.
FCE Certification preferred
Basic Life Support certification required
