Upholsterer - Chalk Design Build

Chalk is looking to hire a skilled seamtress-upholsterer to fabricate and/or repair upholstery for our clients. In this role you will be working with selected and appropriate materials for the job, and installing the upholstery to meet the desired specifications. At times you may also be required to dismantle and rebuild furniture in which the upholstery has to be repaired or replaced.

To ensure success as an upholsterer, you should have basic knowledge of modern upholstery techniques, tools, sewing skills, a good eye for detail, and the ability to visualize design ideas.

Upholsterer Responsibilities:

• Meetings with Chalk Upholstery Manager and design team to discuss upholstery fabrication ideas, plans and techniques.

• Interpreting design shop drawings and creating upholstery stencils and patterns.

• Working with purchasing in selecting and sourcing upholstery materials.

• Working with woodshop regardings booth fabrication details, pre-upholstery install.

• Dismantling furniture, fabric and foam for new upholstery preparation.

• Measuring and cutting leather, vinyl or fabric with the aid of design stencils, cutting machines and hand tools.

• Cutting out and Installing foam and/or batting to the furniture framework.

• Stretching out and installing fabric, vinyl or leather coverings.

• Stitching, gluing, and nailing fabric into place.

• Ability to recognize and smooth out complicated corners or fabric imperfections.

• Conducting quality fabrication review on completed projects.

Upholsterer Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED.

• Some proven work experience as an upholsterer.

• Passion to be detail-oriented.

• Ability to interpret, draw, and fabricate design templates.

• Knowledge of upholstery tools including hot knives, nail guns, bandsaw and sewing equipment.

• Ability to lift, pull, and manipulate heavy objects.

• Ability to stand, kneel, and walk for up to eight hours a day.
