The Structural Welder is responsible for performing high-quality welding on structural steel components in the fabrication yard. This role involves using various welding processes to assemble and weld metal structures according to project specifications, blueprints, and welding codes. The Structural Welder ensures that all welds meet quality standards and project timelines, adhering to safety regulations throughout the process. The position requires attention to detail, precision, and a strong understanding of structural welding techniques.
Welding Structural Components.
Structural Welder - Fabrication Yard Responsibilities
- Weld structural steel and other metal components using various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-Cored) based on the project requirements and blueprints.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to determine welding requirements, ensuring proper weld size, type, and placement.
- Set up and prepare structural materials, aligning and clamping metal parts to be welded. Ensure all workpieces are properly positioned before welding.
- Inspect completed welds to ensure they meet project specifications, welding codes, and quality standards. Correct any defects in welds or structural integrity before final inspection.
- Work closely with other welders, fabricators, and team members to ensure smooth workflow and project completion. Communicate any potential issues to the Welding Supervisor.
- Operate and maintain welding equipment, ensuring it is in safe and proper working condition. Report any malfunctioning tools or equipment to the supervisor.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safe work practices at all times.
- Maintain records of work completed, welding activities, and inspections as required by project or company standards.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a structural welder in a fabrication yard or industrial environment.
- Proven experience welding structural steel components.
- Structural Welder Certification (AWS, ASME, or equivalent).
- Additional certifications in specific welding processes or materials are an advantage.
- Safety certifications (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH) are preferred.
- Proficiency in MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-Cored welding techniques, particularly for structural steel applications.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with welding codes, standards, and procedures (AWS, ASME).
