Downtown law firm is looking for a Litigation Paralegal. The Litigation Paralegal provides a proactive approach to their assigned cases that will include collaboration with attorneys, other paralegals, and legal secretaries on civil litigation matters including, but not limited to, primarily personal injury insurance defense, employment, medical malpractice, and commercial cases. The job responsibilities include case management, investigative and legal research, discovery, hearing and trial preparation, and some appellate work.

Responsibilities

Manage case files through electronic folders and document management system.

Investigate case facts and perform extensive background searches on individuals and business entities

Familiarity reviewing and summarizing medical records and preparing detailed medical chronologies.

Introductory knowledge of medical billing records and the preliminary ability to determine paid and incurred expenses that includes the preparation of detailed Excel spreadsheets

Professional demeanor required to work with outside vendors to obtain necessary records and order open records from various entities

Familiarity with subpoenas and depositions on written question, both in how they are prepared through execution and tracking

Organizing and indexing document productions to include redaction and Bates numbering.

Familiarity with the processing of large document productions and deposition indexing and tracking for multiple parties

Assist with hearing and trial preparation.

Ability to assist in locating appropriate experts in various specialties to include communication with experts and preparation of expert materials

Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Possess outstanding organizational skills as well as strong verbal and written communication skills required to work within the paralegal team environment

Ability to perform work with a high level of accuracy and heavy attention to detail.

Knowledge of the Federal and Texas Rules of Civil Procedure.

Experience with an electronic document management system, preferably iManage.

Working knowledge of Excel, Word, Adobe, PACER, WestLaw, Sharefile

Experience with billing management systems.

Three to Five years of experience in defense litigation is preferred

 

Physical Demands and Working Environment

Work is performed in an office environment and involves everyday risks or discomforts, requiring normal safety precautions when performing work. Work requires frequent walking, standing, bending, and carrying items up to 25 pounds.
