CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES:

Essential
  • Review blueprints, written specifications or descriptions, or examine a damaged part
  • Select the most appropriate machines and cutting tools for the job
  • Plan the sequence of machining operations and required mathematical calculations
  • Lay out and mark metal shock to show where cuts should be made, position and fasten the workpiece
  • Make the cuts, performing the required operations of the equipment
  • Monitor feed and speed of the machine, ensuring all equipment and setups are held securely
  • Ensure the workpiece is being properly lubricated and cooled
  • Properly fill out and use dimensional verification sheets to monitor quality
  • Assist operators, ensuring quality of work done during shift
  • Assembles, repairs and fabricates metal parts by operating mechanical equipment
  • Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units
  • Uses blueprints and design sketches to ensure the proper dimensions and tolerance levels of the finished product
  • Familiar with all machines in shop
  • Ensure work is documented accurately and completely, including inspections, clock-in & clock-out as well as material issuing.
  • Have first article or individual part bought off by lead, supervisor or inspector
  • Measure workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of operation
  • Interface effectively and professionally with customers, vendors, and team members
  • Have parts properly prepared to hand off to the next process
  • Evaluate programming needs and coordinate with programmer
  • Provide production time estimates if required for estimate
  • Maintain the responsibilities of the ISO 9001 system in accordance with the requirements defined in the Quality Manual, and Procedure Level documentation
  • Participate actively and positively in Ownership Thinking and Lean activities
  • Keep work area clean and organized.

Follow all OSHA safety regulations and those set by B & J, Inc.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

Essential

  • Minimum 10 years machining experience
    • Muti-axis experience preferred
  • Good understanding of machine shop operations
  • Strong math skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; algebra, geometry and trigonometry; conversations for material requirements, dollars, and time
  • Strong ability to read blueprints
  • Strong creative skills – ability to see beyond the immediate application of a program or assignment
  • Strong ability to coach and train
  • Strong ability to read, analyze and interpret written instructions
  • Strong ability to understand detailed verbal instructions
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Good knowledge of metals and their properties

Beneficial
  • High school graduate with additional relevant vocational training (metallurgy, CNC programming/operation, etc.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

Sit 5%, Stand 10%, Walk 71%, Bend 5%, Lift 5%, Reach Above Shoulder 2%, Drive 2%.

Maximum (minutes based upon an 8 hour day): Sit 24, Stand 48, Walk 340, Bend 24, Lift 24, Reach Above Shoulder 10, Drive 10. Position requires normal vision (with or without corrective lenses) and normal hearing (with or without corrective hearing aids).

Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. Must have normal vision (with or without corrective lenses) and hearing (with or without corrective hearing aids).

Working Environment: Shop and office environment with noise levels ranging from light to moderate. Exposure to dust, heat and cold.

This position will require drug testing per company policy.
