Job Title: Service Manager – Dealer Training Specialist
Department: Sales
Reports To: Director of Sales and Business Development
Job Summary:
The Service Manager is responsible for providing technical support, maintenance services, and training to dealerships on the operation, maintenance, and repair of vacuum excavators. This role involves hands-on service work and delivering comprehensive training programs to dealership personnel to ensure consistent and high-quality product knowledge. With up to 25% travel, this position combines technical expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to build relationships with dealer networks.
Key Responsibilities
Dealer Training:
- Develop and conduct on-site and virtual training sessions for dealership teams on vacuum excavator operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Create and update training materials, such as manuals, videos, and guides, tailored to dealership needs.
- Ensure dealership personnel understand company standards and best practices for servicing equipment.
- Evaluate dealership team performance during training and provide feedback to improve their technical skills.
Service Support:
- Diagnose and repair vacuum excavator equipment issues, ensuring minimal downtime for customers.
- Assist dealerships in troubleshooting complex technical issues and providing guidance on repairs.
- Perform regular maintenance and inspections on equipment to ensure functionality and compliance with safety standards.
Travel and On-Site Support:
- Travel to dealer locations (approximately 25% of the time) to deliver training, perform inspections, and provide in-person support.
- Act as the technical expert during on-site visits, addressing questions and demonstrating best practices.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed service and training records for dealership interactions and equipment inspections.
- Provide regular reports to the Service Manager regarding dealership performance and recurring technical issues.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify areas to enhance training programs or dealership support strategies.
- Collaborate with the Service Manager to implement improvements based on dealership feedback and service trends.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications or vocational training in mechanics or equipment repair preferred.
Experience:
- 2+ years of experience as a service technician, preferably with vacuum excavators or heavy equipment.
- Experience in training or mentoring others is a plus.
Skills:
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills with vacuum excavators or similar equipment.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for delivering training sessions.
- Ability to work independently and manage schedules effectively.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, repair equipment, and service software.
- Able to read and explain electrical schematics
- Able to read and explain hydraulic schematics
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and tools (up to 50 lbs) and work in varying environmental conditions.
