Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Floater Direct Support Professional is under the supervision of the Program Manager/ Program Director and is responsible for planning and conducting lessons and activities for associates drawn from the Productive and Personally Meaningful Life (PPML) Plans/ Person Centered Plans. The Floater Direct Support Professional plays an integral role in supporting associates to: utilize effective communication systems; develop positive relationships with others; become valued, contributing members of the community; work toward achievement of their life’s goals, and attain a true community-based, integrated, quality of life.


The Floater Direct Support Professional is expected to become familiar with all of the consumers he/she serves so that he/she can make valuable contributions to Productive and Personally Meaningful Life (PPML)/PATH/Rehabilitation/Habilitation and

Individualized Service Plans, Person-Centered Planning meetings and Circle of Support meetings.


Principle Areas of Responsibility:

  1. Serve as a substitute Direct Support Professional as needed. This includes gathering/maintaining materials for sub file:

  • Emergency information sheets on all associates

  • Updated class/work schedules for each associate

  • List of current ISP goals for each associate

  • Progress notes, including documentation of associate's presence/absence

  1. Serve as an exceptional role model Direct Support Professional including holding up all areas of the code of ethics, interactions with co-workers, and adherence to responsibilities held for all DSPs. This includes, but is not limited to: respectful associate interactions, positive behavior supports, systematic instructions and other teaching strategies.

  2. Assist with development and implementation of Productive and Personally Meaningful Life (PPML) Plans and Behavior Support Plans for each associate, based on information obtained through Discovery curriculum and behavioral assessments.

  3. Document associate progress through assessment/data collection instruments.

  4. Follow daily lesson plans/schedules, which addressProductive and Personally Meaningful Life (PPML) Plans objectives for all assigned associates.

  5. Provide training for associates in functional classroom/workplace/community activities, which will allow them to achieve their Productive and Personally Meaningful Life (PPML) Plans objectives.

  6. Assist associates in accessing a variety of community locations using company/personal vehicles/public transportation, including but not limited to provide mobility training, and general supervision and safety oversight.

  7. Provide supervision and training to associates in self-advocacy and social/leisure skills.

  8. Provide mentorship and support to Direct Support Professionals.

  9. Perform miscellaneous tasks needed to improve associate success in employment and at community-based locations.

  10. Provide small group and one-on-one training of individuals in specific educational supports, job skills, and general college/work behaviors.

  11. Conduct educational analysis of needed study, writing, and executive functioning skills in cooperation with the SSD/DSP & S/Special Services office and/or college professors (if applicable).

  12. Ensure that all assigned academic projects and priorities are consistently completed according to college standards and expectations (if applicable).

  13. Maintain regular communication with professors regarding their satisfaction with the student’s performance (if applicable).



This is a 37-40 hour per week position. The schedule fluctuates according to the specific program the Floater Direct Support Professional is assigned to work in. The schedule will require both evening and weekend work shifts. These will be scheduled in advance for work/life balance purposes as best as possible. When necessary, staff will have a 30 minute working lunch when actively supporting associates. A working lunch agreement will be on file. These hours and duties are subject to change.



Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in the field of Human Services preferred, in addition to experience providing training/instruction to adults with developmental disabilities.

  • Must demonstrate a working knowledge of task analysis/assessment/positive behavior supports, and have clear written and verbal communication skills.

  • Flexible work schedule and ability to travel to various locations using personal vehicle.

  • Must be able to meet all Direct Support Professional qualifications as written in DSP Universal Job Description.
