SUMMARY OF POSITION

CHCU has an immediate opening for a Director, Upstream and Partner Development. The qualified candidate will lead, provide guidance, and coach cross-functional team members in delivering upstream marketing research, evidence, and insights through engaging with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) across healthcare related disciplines in the United States and globally.

This includes identifying and developing relationships, establishing engagement processes, and conducting market research activities, to deliver market intelligence, proposed product and solutions strategies and insights to Canon’s Japan-based HQ business units and executive management. The position engages and influences internal stakeholders in HQ and globally on both the product development and KOL engagement processes. This role is also accountable for leading the cadence of governance and communication for upstream KOL engagement performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leading Upstream Research Capability & Execution
    1. Lead the team to develop and implement end to end upstream marketing planning processes applicable across the Canon healthcare portfolio.
    2. Oversee generation and communication of upstream marketing data, strategic insights, and recommendations as a service to Canon product and solutions business units in Medical HQ and elsewhere as directed.
    3. Engage and develop relationships with HQ business units to ensure cooperation and collaboration between all Japan-based and KOL entities in representing relevant market requirements to product and solutions development.
    4. Drive regional Product Management (PM) integration with HQ Business Unit product development processes. Ensure strategic positioning of CHCU PM capabilities to optimize inclusion of market requirements in the products and solutions development process.
    5. Engage with HQ Solution Planning in building internal KOL engagement and product management processes based on knowledge of industry best practices.

  • Leading Upstream KOL Engagement Capability and Execution
    1. Accountable for the success of upstream KOL engagements for all existing modalities and potential new business products and solutions as required.
    2. Lead the cross-functional task force in CHCU to develop long-term upstream relationships with KOLs.
    3. Provide guidance and coaching for all CHCU on effective engagement with KOLs and establishing best practice channels for KOL engagement according to upstream marketing goals and requirements.
    4. Build internal processes to manage all interactions, reporting, and communications.
    5. Collaborate with Canon HQ and global entities to build a strategic, coordinated approach, for the inclusion of KOL voices in the upstream marketing process.

  • Providing Visibility and Performance Management to CEO
    1. Designs and leads the cadence of governance and communication of upstream KOL engagement performance and upstream marketing projects.
    2. Accountable for KPI evaluation of CHCU members in Upstream & Partner Development team on the performance of KOL engagement and delivery of upstream marketing capability, data, insights and influence on the product and solutions planning and development process for Canon Medical.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • B.S. (M.S. or Ph.D. or MBA preferred) in marketing, health sciences or related field, plus 10 years of relevant healthcare industry experience.


Required Capabilities

  • Strong expertise in developing long-term relationships with US KOLs in the healthcare industry.
  • Deep understanding of the product management process.
  • Deep understanding of KOL engagement process.
  • Organizational leadership and stakeholder-engagement skills to lead.
  • Global cross-functional teams and manage internal stakeholder management.
  • Demonstrated leadership in driving healthy organizational culture.
  • Experience in establishing new teams and organizational processes.
  • Well-developed people management skills.
  • Ability to negotiate internally and at executive levels.

Work Location

  • This position is regular, full-time and requires a commitment of 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday, during regular business hours.
  • This position is based in CHCU’s office in Mayfield Village (Cleveland), Ohio.
  • A hybrid work schedule will allow the ideal candidate the flexibility to work from home on some days and from the office on other days, but the candidate must be able to come on-site daily based on the needs of the projects and business requirements.

Travel

  • The ability to complete domestic and international is required.
