DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

Job Summary:
The Director, Development is responsible for the overall success of the Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas’ annual giving program, generated as part of the agency’s strategic plan to enhance and support the agency’s mission. Plans, develops, implements, administers, evaluates, and monitors a robust fundraising/development plan targeting an assigned geographical area under the direction of the Executive Director. Develops and secures funds to reach/surpass fund-raising goals through a variety of financial development vehicles including: 1) individual gifts and individual donor upgrading, 2) corporate gifts and sponsorships, 3) foundation support for specific programs and projects, 4) capital campaigns, and 5) special events. Works directly and independently with the executive team and delegated staff as well as the AAAPP Boar’s Fundraising Workgroup. Plans and coordinates all public relations activities including all social media platforms and ensures compliance with the designated budget.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans, develops, implements, administers, and sustains a robust Development Plan to raise funds to assist seniors in Pinellas and Pasco counties.
- Prepares an annual goal, in conjunction with the Executive Director, of dollars to be raised and gifts to be obtained for the fiscal year January 1 to December 31. Monitors progress to ensure goals are attained. Establishes methods and measures for monitoring and evaluating fund-raising goals and objectives.
- Solicits donations and cultivates relationships with donors in order to develop, secure, and maintain new income sources for present and long-term financial support. Ensures that all requests from donors and potential donors for information and clarification are responded to in an accurate, timely, and professional manner. Evaluates day-to-day fund-raising efforts to ensure that fund-raising goals are met and/or surpassed.
- Plans, develops, and initiates a fund-raising strategy to develop corporate gifts and sponsorships as well as foundation support for special programs and projects. Research financial status and philosophy of organizations to identify potential prospects for major gifts. Contact corporations to identify corporate representative responsible for donor solicitation and cultivates and maintains effective working relationships with corporate officials.
- Develops and coordinates the operation of fund-raising appeals identifying new and inventive methods including but not limited to direct mail and social/digital media.
- Identify special funding available through government grants and private foundations, obtains and completes grant applications to acquire funds.
- Plans, develops, coordinates, and monitors all details associated with fund-raising special events and campaigns. Identifies the necessary resources, equipment, and personnel and plans event procedures and fund-raising goals. Recruits, motivates, and instructs volunteers and staff.
- Develop and implement an effective donor recognition and stewardship program for all donors and levels of support.
- Plans and coordinates all public relations to promote and conduct fund raising programs including the development of a quarterly newsletter. Plans and coordinates media advertisements including local television, radio and newspaper coverage ensuring the image projected complies with AAAPP standards and mission. Evaluates appropriateness and effectiveness of public relations efforts.
- Develops, prepares, and monitors regular financial reports illustrating financial development progress. Establishes and maintains an organized and efficient donor record-keeping system ensuring that accurate and complete records are prepared and maintained for each donor.
- Works with the Executive Director, VP of Finance, Chief Operating Officer, Board’s Fundraising Workgroup, Advisory Council, to develop local promotional plans.
- Develops the annual Development Program budget, administers the affairs of the position within the approved budget, and prepares special financial reports as requested.
- Collaborate and maintain relationships with leadership to ensure AAAPP development goals are met or exceeded.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field with specialized training in Fund Raising Management is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience of fundraising in a non-profit setting with at minimum $150,000 raised on an annual basis.
- Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in fund-raising and fund-raising management, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Knowledge of modern principles and practices of individual, corporate, foundation, grant-seeking, and special events fund-raising.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret charitable solicitation laws, AAAPP policies, and local, state, and federal laws as they relate to fund-raising and charitable solicitation.
- Knowledge of donor records management and administration as well as data and trend analysis.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of budgeting and financial management.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective communications and public relations.
- Ability to design, plan, administer, and monitor the day-to-day operations of a Development Program and to ensure compliance with the mission of AAAPP.
- Ability to conduct the affairs of this office responsibly, efficiently, and economically, and to motivate the staff to do likewise.
- Ability to lead, motivate, encourage, and inspire volunteers working on financial development activities.
- Ability to travel locally as necessary to work with local unit program leadership, potential donors, and professionals of their communities.
Special Requirements: Must pass DOEA Level II criminal background screening; must sign SMMCLTC Program – Prohibited Activities.
Licenses And Certificates:
Valid State Driver's License, National Society of Fund-Raising Executives (NSFRE) Certification as Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) is desirable.
