Splicer Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a clean, professional appearance and wear the company uniform during all project-related duties unless instructed otherwise by a superior.
  • Accept direction and feedback from higher-classification team members.
  • Travel to client sites to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve telecommunications and data/IT equipment issues, as well as perform equipment maintenance within a designated territory.
  • Perform fusion splicing (e.g., M-90, X-77, I-LID, and OPTI-SPLICE LID fusion splicers) for both single and ribbon splicing.
  • Prepare cables and enclosures, including bonding and grounding as needed.
  • Conduct aerial and underground splicing and cable installation.
  • Perform FO testing, including OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer), PM (Power Meter), and LS (Light Source) testing.
  • Install and terminate both copper and fiber optic cables (Cat5e, Cat6, single-mode, multi-mode, etc.).
  • Have knowledge of fiber-optic networks and terminology such as GPON, FTTH, FTTB.
  • Create and install proper labels.
  • Perform all component and system testing.
  • Understand basic wiring diagrams and installation instructions.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a crew leader when assigned, overseeing the timely completion of tasks by the team.
  • Perform and document optical attenuation tests on single-mode and multi-mode optical strands.
  • Configure, operate, and analyze test data from Optical Time Domain Reflectometers.
  • Ground and bond all applicable components according to the project scope, local and national codes, and industry standards.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Good finger, wrist dexterity, and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to work at heights (man lifts, scissor lifts, rooftops) with proper fall protection.
  • Skilled with small hand tools and power tools.
  • Capable of climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, lift up to 75 lbs., and drive a vehicle.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint).
  • Strong customer service skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Willingness to accept assignments requiring travel outside the immediate district office area based on client and project needs.
  • Exposure to noisy, dusty conditions, chemicals, solvents, and mechanical or electrical hazards.
  • Regional travel required.

Job Type: Full-time
Experience: 3 years of fiber splicing experience preferred (Google Fiber Plant experience preferred)
License/Certification: Valid driver's license required.
