Job Overview

Reporting to the Facilities Engineering Manager, the Electrical Engineer III will lead the design and execution of electrical infrastructure projects supporting the company’s Permian Asset. This role involves managing electrical designs across a diverse project portfolio, working with third-party engineering firms, utility providers, vendors, and field construction teams.

The ideal candidate will possess expertise in electrical systems, project management, and regulatory compliance, with a strong emphasis on safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Design & Implementation

  • Collaborate with facility engineers to scope electrical requirements for projects.
  • Oversee third-party engineering firms to develop detailed engineering packages.
  • Specify, evaluate, and select electrical equipment for complex operational needs.
  • Design and analyze electrical systems, including substations, power distribution, motor controls, UPS, grounding, and safety systems.

Project Management

  • Manage multiple projects from feasibility to commissioning, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordination.
  • Provide technical clarity and resolve queries during construction phases.
  • Act as the primary liaison with utility companies for load forecasts, tie-ins, and timeline management.
  • Prepare technical bids, evaluate proposals, and ensure project cost efficiency.

Compliance & Safety

  • Conduct studies such as short circuit, arc flash, and coordination analyses to ensure facility reliability and personnel safety.
  • Ensure all designs comply with industry standards (IEEE, NFPA, NEC, API) and company specifications.
  • Develop and maintain electrical engineering specifications and area classification drawings.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Interface with construction and operations teams to coordinate RFQ packages and construction drawings.
  • Monitor project progress, ensuring timely completion and accurate reporting.
  • Investigate and resolve issues in existing facilities to enhance operational efficiency.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry or relevant engineering roles.

Technical Skills

  • Expertise in power system design, substations, and protective relaying.
  • Proficiency in electrical modeling software (e.g., SKM, ETAP, MilSoft) for power studies and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of electric motors, variable frequency drives, and motor protection systems.

Industry Knowledge

  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards, including IEEE, NFPA, NEC, NESC, and API.
  • Understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance concepts for electrical systems.

Core Competencies

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management capabilities, including budgeting and scheduling.
  • Ability to collaborate across technical and managerial teams.

Preferred Experience

  • Upstream Oil & Gas operations experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with high-voltage systems, including 480V equipment and 12.5kV field distribution networks.
  • Knowledge of utility contracts, proposals, and budgeting processes.
