Job DescriptionJob Description

Key responsibilities of a patient coordinator may include:

  • Medical record management:

    Maintaining accurate patient records, updating medical information, and ensuring proper documentation. 

  • Referral management:

    Coordinating referrals to specialists or other healthcare providers as needed. 

  • Billing and insurance verification:

    Checking insurance benefits, obtaining pre-authorizations for procedures, and managing patient billing inquiries. 

  • Patient advocacy:

    Addressing patient concerns, advocating for their needs, and resolving issues with healthcare providers. 

Patient scheduling and check-in:

  • Managing patient appointments, verifying insurance eligibility, collecting necessary paperwork, and checking patients in for appointments. 

  • Communication and coordination:

    Answering patient calls, responding to inquiries, relaying information between patients, healthcare providers, and other departments. 

Required skills for a patient coordinator:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals. 
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and patient schedules efficiently. 
  • Attention to detail to maintain accurate patient records and data. 
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare procedures. 
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems. 
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure.
