Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Food Technologist supports in new product and process development, focusing on improvements and cost reductions. Key responsibilities include evaluating and reporting on initiatives, providing technical support to QA and Production personnel, and actively participating in R&D efforts. This role reports to the R&D Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the formulation of new products and the reformulation of existing products. Fully participate and contribute to the product/ project development process.
- Provide R&D support and demonstrate responsibility for project reports, technical support, research reports and meeting reports. Co-ordinate projects with Operations, Materials Control, Maintenance, Sales, Customer Service, Scheduling and QA departments. Provide follow up communication with internal departments.
- Support R&D with customer correspondence to obtain information on project requirements. Share project/ product information within the R&D Department for the development of existing, new or innovative products and concepts.
- Ability to provide cost reductions, shelf stability studies, ingredient substitutions, specification reviews, new product certifications, etc., for new or existing products.
- Must have a thorough understanding of the product development cycle and be able to support a cross-functional team through a project's life cycle.
- Provide an ongoing commitment by engaging in industry knowledge and trends (both product and legal/regulatory sectors).
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint – Intermediate Proficiency
- English Language (Speaking/Listening)
- Knowledge: Food development and quality assurance experience in the food production industry
- Skills: Reading comprehension, active listening, speaking, business writing, problem solving, coordination, service orientation, multitasking, analysis, formulation, ability to chart results.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or related Science degree or (combination of education credits and relevant full-time experience)
- Minimum 1 year experience in food product development and quality assurance experience in a food production facility.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift and carry 10-20 pounds
