Assistant Cook

Job Summary:
The Assistant Cook supports the cooking and preparation process in our production facility. This role involves following recipes, preparing and inspecting equipment, measuring and adding ingredients, and maintaining cleanliness. The Assistant Cook collaborates closely with the Cook and other team members to ensure efficient and safe food production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recipe and Equipment Preparation:
- Review recipes to determine the equipment needed and complete the setup.
- Inform the Quality Controller before starting the cooking process.
- Ensure the hose from the liquefier is closed and inspect the kettle prior to use.
- Verify that the scale is zeroed before measuring ingredients.
- Ingredient Handling and Cooking:
- Compare the weight on the scale with the recipe requirements.
- Once the target temperature is reached, add the remaining ingredients and check the final weight.
- Inspect all ingredients before loading them into kettles.
- Support and Communication:
- Assist the Cook as needed and step in if the Cook is unavailable.
- Communicate with the Batching and Quality teams to ensure proper ingredient handling and processing.
- Cleaning and Maintenance:
- Maintain cleanliness on the production platform and clean equipment as necessary.
- Clean lines, processing equipment, and packaging equipment, including metal conveyors and the machines themselves.
- Open valves as needed for cleaning tasks.
- Handle hot water as a cleaning agent safely.
- Sweep and mop floors regularly.
- Additional Duties:
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Production Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Technical Skills:
- Accurate completion of paperwork related to ingredient handling and cooking.
- Strong math skills for measuring and weighing ingredients.
- Basic computer skills for operating machinery and recording data.
- Interpersonal Skills:
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to work well with colleagues at all levels.
- Ability to follow instructions and adapt to varying needs and tasks.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Adhere to lifting guidelines to complete Team Lifts with Cooks or other Production worker for all items over 50 lbs.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and handle materials, with the capability to lift more than 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in a production environment with fluctuating temperatures and noise levels.
- Ability to see, speak, hear, read, walk, and stand for extended periods.
- Capability to pull, push, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and balance.
- Extensive walking required throughout the shift.
- Ability to work safely with strong chemicals and hot water.
