Are you a visionary leader with a passion for music, culture, and community engagement? The iconic Surf Ballroom & Museum in Clear Lake, Iowa, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to guide us into an exciting future
About Us:
The Surf Ballroom & Museum, a National Historic Landmark, holds a legendary place in American music history. As the venue of the final concert for Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, we honor our rich past while looking forward to new cultural, educational, and entertainment opportunities. With the recent Destination Iowa Creative Placemaking grant, we're set to open a new Music Enrichment and Immersive Center in June 2025, transforming the Surf District into a premier destination for music enthusiasts worldwide.
Position Overview:
The CEO will lead the Surf Ballroom & Museum and the new Music Enrichment and Immersive Center, driving our mission to enhance cultural, educational, and entertainment opportunities in North Iowa. This role requires a dynamic and visionary leader with nonprofit experience, strong leadership skills, and a creative vision for all generations. The ideal candidate will oversee various department heads and work closely with the NICCM Board of Directors, ensuring our historic venue continues to thrive and innovate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to achieve the organization's mission and goals.
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies, secure grants, and build relationships with donors and sponsors.
- Oversee financial operations, including budgeting and financial reporting.
- Act as the public face of the organization, engaging with the community, stakeholders, and media.
- Ensure efficient day-to-day operations, including staff management, facilities maintenance, and event coordination.
- Utilize museum management skills to help in oversight of preservation and showcasing of historical artifacts and exhibitions.
- Develop innovative programs and initiatives that attract and engage a wide range of audiences.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in nonprofit leadership with a strong understanding of governance and best practices.
- Proficiency in financial management, including budgeting and financial planning.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant writing, and securing donations.
- Experience in managing museum operations and curating exhibitions.
- Strong public speaking skills and the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. Minimum of 7-10 years of leadership experience in a related field.
