Job Description

The QC Technician is responsible for inspecting, verifying, and documenting food product and packaging quality according to company policies and procedures. This role involves ensuring product code date checks are correct, inspecting metal detectors, x-ray machines, and checkweighers, obtaining and delivering samples for the Micro Lab, recording weights, conducting temperature checks, and monitoring the production process while adhering to USDA GMP and sanitation guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect, set-up, and routinely check metal detectors, x-rays, and checkweighers.
  • Verify ingredients for production by checking against the production batch sheet.
  • Verify carton version specifications and inform QA Supervisors of deficiencies.
  • Ensure all cooler/freezer temperatures are within acceptable limits.
  • Obtain samples of product components from production lines to check and record weights, temperatures, and product quality.
  • Aseptically sample product components and swab environmental sites for microbiological testing.
  • Enter weights into the SPC database Infinity.
  • Understand and address alarms for out-of-control weights in a timely manner.
  • Identify defective and nonconforming products and take appropriate corrective action as needed.
  • Check and record product codes and packaging to assure compliance with regulations and provide traceability.
  • Monitor the production process, ensuring adherence to GMP, USDA, and sanitation guidelines, and take corrective action as necessary if standards are not being met.
  • Monitor and execute QA sampling programs.
  • Review HAACP and QA documentation to ensure compliance.
  • Place nonconforming materials on hold when necessary.
  • Complete all daily quality paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
  • Follow all appropriate startup, changeover, and end-of-shift procedures.
  • Perform internal audits for allergen labeling, broken glass and plastic, general facility condition, etc.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to work scheduled/assigned times and required overtime.
  • Ability to read, write, communicate, and comprehend verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to use independent judgment to make decisions and solve problems.
  • Well-organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work individually as well as with others as a team at all levels.
  • Ability to work in all areas of the plant and at all start times.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Ability to move up to 25 lbs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Knowledge of GMPs and food allergens.
  • Ability to be LOTO Certified.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
