Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Inpatient Pharmacy Technician to join our team. In this role, you will assist in the provision of pharmaceutical services, including drug preparation, distribution, and inventory control. You will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and maintain accurate documentation according to policy and procedure. Additionally, you will perform general clerical tasks and help maintain a safe working environment.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in drug preparation, distribution, inventory control, quality control, and proper documentation.
  • Perform billing, pricing, record keeping, and other services to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain records of drug distribution and work with vendors to requisition or return drugs.
  • Interpret, transcribe, and dispense orders/prescriptions under the direction of a pharmacist.
  • Complete routine and priority tasks within established departmental time frames.
  • Perform general clerical tasks such as answering phones and updating patient information.
  • Prepare and complete accurate documentation related to patients in medical and departmental records.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and safe working environment by complying with policies and regulations.
  • Adhere to infection-control protocols to protect patients and technicians.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient protected health information (PHI).
  • Assist pharmacists in preparing, administering, and documenting medications and treatments in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Comply with state and federal drug laws and assist pharmacists in monitoring nursing unit inspections and maintaining records for controlled substances.
  • Retain certification and complete mandated continuing education requirements.
  • Develop hospital staff's pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs and training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, residents, and healthcare professionals.
Essential Skills
  • Pharmacy Technician License (CA)
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (Cpht)
  • 2 years of Pharmacy Technician experience (inpatient highly preferred)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, pharmaceutical names, calculations, and laws and regulations.
  • Understanding of different pharmacy practice settings, including narcotic delivery and procedures.
  • Ability to identify and employ pharmaceutical and medical terms, abbreviations, and symbols.
  • Basic working knowledge of legal requirements and accreditation standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-developed time management and organizational skills.
  • General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite and related pharmaceutical technology.
  • Ability to carry out calculations and execute basic math skills for dosage determination.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to ensure the privacy of each patient’s PHI.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with peers and other healthcare providers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Compounding/IV experience (highly preferred)
  • EPIC experience (preferred)
  • Customer service experience
  • Experience in retail pharmacy and pharmacy support
  • Experience with filling prescriptions and prior authorization
  • AHA BLS Certification
Work Environment

This position is onsite with obligations every other weekend and on holidays. The schedule requires flexibility to work either the day shift (07:00 - 15:30) or the mid shift (15:00 - 23:30). Employees will have the opportunity to gain inpatient hospital experience working for one of the largest hospital systems in Northern California.
