Summary:
The Sr. Design Engineer is responsible for designing and developing new products, improving existing products, and ensuring that all designs meet the required specifications. Additionally, this position is responsible for developing product quoting and pricing in collaboration with Operations and Commercial teams. The Sr. Design Engineer applies leadership and teamwork skills to effectively plan, execute, and manage scopes, schedules, and budgets to meet project stakeholder needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Design and develop new products from concept to production Designs, plans, and directs the development of packaging, insulation and componentry related products.
· Improve existing products to meet customer needs and market demands
· Ensure that all designs meet the required specifications and standards
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that designs are feasible and cost-effective
· Conduct research and analysis to identify new design trends and technologies
· Create and maintain accurate design documentation
· Participate in design reviews and provide feedback to improve designs
· Formulates the development plan and leads the activities related to the mold and tooling design and construction.
· Provides support for Innovation projects to achieve desired performance results.
· Provides support to manufacturing sites as needed to address customer satisfaction issues and maintain product quality.
· Monitors and evaluates goals while driving for standardized effective solutions to existing problems.
· Ensures continual appropriate communication with the commercial team, manufacturing sites, and suppliers.
· Ensures project objectives are met at the lowest cost while maintaining the highest level of quality and safety.
· Collaborates with Commercial and Operations teams to construct product pricing and quoting
· Evaluates designs for manufacturability
· Analyzes engineering drawing and specifications to ensure product quality
· Manage the product development from conception to defect free production
· Strive for continuous process and development improvement, focusing on quality and speed to market
· Provide process support for Innovation Center, including trials and material samplings.
· Participate in development of technical advancements, identify, and protect intellectual property.
· Conduct engineering studies to evaluate product quality
· Formulate a development plan and technical solutions to address on-going quality concerns
· Provide engineering assistance to commercial team and customers, including travel for on-site support
· Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
· Other duties may be assigned.

Education Requirements/Work Experience
· Bachelor's degree in engineering disciplines with packaging engineering preferred
· Proven experience as a Design Engineer with 6+ years of component design experience within manufacturing environment, packaging componentry experience is preferred.
Minimum Requirements
· Understanding of Financials and Budgeting process.
· Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering principles
· Proven experience in cold chain protective packaging, with expertise in EPS.
· Familiarity with the pharmaceutical and food services industries.
· Experience with continuous improvement discipline (Lean or Six Sigma) is a plus.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Attention to detail and ability to multitasking
Reasoning Ability:
· Strong analytical skill set and demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams
to quickly analyze problems and develop effective solutions.
· Ability to quickly adapt to changes in work environment and manage competing demands.
· Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
· To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient with Microsoft Suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, TEAMS, and other data entry, Order processing systems and Database software. Salesforce.com a plus. Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.)
