Transportation Monitor

To direct pedestrian crossings and ensure the safety of children and school community members while remaining alert to traffic hazards. This job requires punctuality and remaining at work location until the conclusion of assignment or when other direction is provided by the building principal.
Essential Functions
· To provide safe crossing of school children, pedestrians, and control of traffic at designated crossings within Baltimore, Maryland.
· To report to assigned location for two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon between the hours of 7:15 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.
· To ensure that vehicular traffic and pedestrian movement are controlled at designated intersections and crossings from the curbside or the street with the safety of all concerned.
· To direct the coordinated, safe movement of school children and other pedestrians to cross streets.
· To provide direct, routine assistance to pedestrians at busy intersections.
· To respond to routine questions and provide information to school children, parents, and motorists.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
· This classification will require walking and standing for extended periods of time, traveling between work sites, exposure to motor vehicle traffic, and adverse weather conditions.
· Persons in this classification will work an average of twenty hours per week during the school year 10 months (August to June).
· Employees must use equipment consisting of a whistle, handheld stop sign, and flares; and employees must wear the designated uniform.
· Employees will receive periodic checks by The Office of Pupil Transportation at the assigned work location.
· Applicants selected for an appointment to a position in Baltimore City Public Schools must successfully complete a physical examination and drug screen and an employment background investigation, including, but not limited to a criminal background check, and fingerprinting.
