Special Education Teacher

Location: Libertyville, Illinois

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Education Teacher to join our educational team in Libertyville, Illinois. The ideal candidate will provide individualized instruction and support to students with special needs, ensuring they achieve their highest potential. This role involves working closely with general education teachers, parents, and other support staff to create and implement effective Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to the unique needs of each student.
  • Provide both direct and indirect instructional support in a nurturing and positive environment.
  • Employ a range of teaching methods and instructional strategies to address the diverse needs of students.
  • Adapt curriculum and instructional techniques to accommodate different learning styles.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing regular feedback to parents and school staff.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, school counselors, and support staff to ensure comprehensive support for students.
  • Maintain detailed records of students' progress and development.
  • Participate in professional development activities to stay informed about the latest best practices in special education.
  • Engage actively in school events and activities to foster a supportive and inclusive school community.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelors degree in Special Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Certification: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in Special Education (LBS1).
  • Experience: Experience working with students with disabilities is preferred.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations, including IDEA and Section 504.
  • Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to develop and implement effective teaching strategies for students with diverse needs.
Required Licensure and Certificates:
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL): Must hold a valid PEL issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Endorsement in Special Education (LBS1): Must have the Learning Behavior Specialist 1 (LBS1) endorsement.
  • Additional Certifications: CPR and First Aid certification are preferred but not required.
