Job Title: Teacher for the Visually Impaired

Location:Holtsville, NY
Job Type: Full-Time
On-Site / Virtual/ Hybrid:On-site
Hourly Rate:$35-$50/hr

Position Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher for the Visually Impaired to join our dynamic educational team. This role will focus on providing specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, helping them to achieve their full potential in both academic and life skills. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching, a mitment to making a difference in the lives of students with visual disabilities, and a strong understanding of specialized teaching techniques and tools for visually impaired learners.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field (a focus on visual impairments is highly preferred).
  • Certification in Teaching Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) is required.
  • Experience working with students with visual impairments, including knowledge of Braille and/or assistive technology, is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and munication skills to work with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a deep mitment to the success and well-being of each student.
  • Ability to create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of students.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, using adapted teaching methods and materials.
  • Develop and implement personalized learning plans that cater to each students unique needs and abilities.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and support staff to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Teach students skills such as Braille, adaptive technology, mobility, and orientation.
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular assessments, feedback, and reports to families and school administration.
  • Ensure that all students have access to the necessary resources, including Braille materials, adaptive equipment, and assistive technologies.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages the development of social, emotional, and academic skills.
  • Stay updated on the latest teaching techniques and advancements in technology for visually impaired students.
