Magnet Medical is a leading healthcare provider seeking an experienced Medical Imaging Specialist to join their team in Montrose, Colorado.
About the RoleThis 13-week contract position offers a unique opportunity to work with a talented team of professionals in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. As a Medical Imaging Specialist, you will be responsible for performing medical imaging procedures using ultrasound equipment to create high-quality images and videos of patients' internal structures.
Responsibilities- Pre-Procedure Preparation:
- Review patient medical history and physician orders to ensure accurate procedure execution.
- Prepare ultrasound equipment, ensuring proper functioning and settings.
- Explain procedures to patients, addressing questions and concerns to reduce anxiety.
- Confirm patient identity, verify contraindications, and complete necessary documentation.
- Conducting Ultrasound Scans:
- Position patients on examination tables for optimal image capture.
- Apply conductive gel for sound wave transmission, ensuring patient comfort.
- Operate ultrasound equipment, adjusting settings for clear, high-quality images.
- Use hand-held transducers to capture diagnostic images and videos.
- Patient Safety and Comfort:
- Ensure patient comfort and safety during procedures, explaining each step and providing reassurance.
- Monitor patients for signs of discomfort or distress, adjusting positioning or equipment as needed.
- Address patient concerns or discomfort, particularly for anxious or nervous patients.
- Maintain a clean and sterile environment, adhering to infection control standards.
- Image Analysis and Reporting:
- Capture high-quality images meeting medical evaluation criteria.
- Review and analyze ultrasound images for clarity and completeness before submission.
- Provide preliminary findings based on images, adhering to professional and legal guidelines.
- Label and store images correctly in electronic health records (EHR) systems or Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).
- Post-Procedure Care:
- Assist patients after procedures, ensuring stability and comfort before departure.
- Remove gel from skin and offer tissues or towels for cleaning.
- Provide aftercare instructions, especially for follow-up appointments or tests.
- Advise patients to follow up with physicians for result review or further treatment.
- Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Regularly inspect and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring proper functioning.
- Perform basic troubleshooting for equipment malfunctions, reporting issues to the appropriate team.
- Sanitize ultrasound probes between patients, following infection control protocols.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of procedures, including patient information, images, and reports.
- Complete documentation in compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and patient confidentiality guidelines (e.g., HIPAA).
- Ensure image and result accessibility for physician or radiologist review.
- Collaboration with Medical Team:
- Work closely with physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals for accurate imaging.
- Communicate effectively to discuss image quality or potential findings requiring further investigation.
- Assist in preparing reports or documentation as needed for medical records or treatment planning.
- Professional Development and Training:
- Participate in continuing education opportunities to stay current with ultrasound technology advancements.
- Maintain certifications and licensure required for ultrasound technology, including RDMS certification and Basic Life Support certification.
- Assist in training new sonographers or students in ultrasound equipment operation, patient care, and safety protocols.
