Med-Surg Overview

Mercy Fort Smith's Med-Surg Service Line is comprised of 7 specialty units, providing experience with patient populations having a range of diagnoses and care needs. These units house and care for patients preparing for or recovering from medical and surgical interventions. To provide a strong foundational knowledge, we cross-train our nurses between the various specialties. Whether you're a new grad nurse looking to build a strong base or an experienced nurse who enjoys variety, Med-Surg is the place for you.

Neuro Unit Details
  • Patient Population: Close monitoring and nursing care to patients with neurological/neurosurgical/surgical and urological diagnoses, including stroke patients and post-back surgery patients.
  • Nurse to Patient Ratio: 6:1
  • # of Beds: 18
  • UAP to patient ratio: 9:1

Qualifications
  • Required Education: Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN).
  • Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
  • Certifications: Must have American Heart Association Healthcare Provider card or complete a course within probationary period. Must have ACLS and BLS or obtain within 90 days of hire.
