Eligibility Specialist Role

At Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy, we are seeking a skilled Eligibility Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for determining applicant eligibility for third-party reimbursement, processing data for new patient admissions, and ensuring proper coding for insurance billing.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct eligibility assessments for clients following established processes and guidelines.
  2. Participate in client recruitment and education in the community regarding services and eligibility.
  3. Verify that clients do not have existing payer sources, such as Medicaid, Medicare, or third-party insurance.
  4. Register clients in applicable systems and complete necessary paperwork.
  5. Maintain accurate and up-to-date eligibility files and conduct renewal eligibility as required.
  6. Confirm eligibility appointments with clients and schedule appointments with potential clients.
  7. Set initial service appointments based on eligibility determinations.
  8. Provide clients with required eligibility documentation.

Additional Responsibilities:

Work with administration to ensure accurate data collection for financial, operations, compliance, and quality reporting. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Associate's degree and 3 years of experience. Ability to analyze and interpret procedures, policies, and practices. Advanced vocational or electronic skills or basic knowledge of a professional field required. An Associate's degree or certification/licensing in a technical specialty program of over 18 months and up to 3 years duration are characteristic of this field. A minimum of 3 years of directly job-related experience required.
