Department Insights

  • Support various locations within a 150-mile radius of your home
  • Mileage reimbursement available
  • Additional $5 per hour for float assignments
  • Weekend shift differential of $1.25 per hour
  • Evening/night shift differential of $1.25 per hour; 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM
  • Minimum of 24 hours of work required per month
  • One weekend rotation required monthly
  • 3 months of prior experience in Long Term Care is necessary; 6 months preferred
  • No contractual obligations required

Position Summary

The Good Samaritan Society is looking for a caring and flexible Certified Medication Aide to join our team as a Traveling CMA. This role offers the opportunity to provide care across multiple GSS locations within a 150-mile radius from your home, ensuring competitive pay, mileage reimbursement, and flexibility without the need for a contract. The CMA will be responsible for delivering age-appropriate care tailored to the physical and emotional needs of residents, following their individualized care plans.

The role includes assisting with essential health care tasks, such as daily living activities, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and recording vital signs. The CMA will also provide psycho-social support and personal care to assigned residents, assist with mobility, and facilitate dining experiences.

In addition, the CMA will administer prescribed medications as directed by a licensed nurse, document care outcomes, and communicate any changes in residents' conditions. Responsibilities also include collecting non-invasive specimens, gathering vital signs, and maintaining cleanliness in residents' living areas.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates should be at least 18 years old, with prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care being advantageous.

Successful candidates will complete annual competency testing and maintain continuing education credits, with a minimum of 12 hours required each year based on state regulations. Relevant certifications must be kept up to date, and a valid driver's license and auto insurance may be necessary.

Specific state requirements include:

  • North Dakota and Iowa: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification is required.
  • Minnesota: Nursing assistant certification and completion of a 75-hour course are mandatory.
  • South Dakota: Completion of a state-approved Certified Medication Aide (CMA) course is essential.
