Overview

MedStar Health is seeking a skilled Respiratory Care Practitioner to join our team at Washington Hospital Center. The ideal candidate will be a certified respiratory therapist with expertise in providing exceptional patient care and demonstrating strong knowledge in the field of respiratory care.

The Respiratory Care Practitioner will work closely with patients of all ages, from neonatal to geriatric, to provide life-supporting therapies and services, including oxygen therapy, ventilator management, and spirometry testing. They will also employ principles of therapeutic communication and interviewing techniques to ensure effective patient care.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assess patients' physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural dimensions, as well as their educational needs, and document accordingly.
  • Perform various respiratory therapy treatments and services, including oxygen, mixed gas, and humidity therapy, ventilator management, bronchial hygiene, lung expansion, and spirometry testing.
  • Employ principles of therapeutic communication, interviewing techniques, problem-solving, and crisis intervention when performing patient care.
  • Respond to cardiopulmonary emergencies, such as cardiac arrest, and perform closed chest cardiac massage.
  • Facilitate workflow efficiency by monitoring interdepartmental systems and processes and making recommendations for improvements as needed.
Requirements
  • Associate degree in Respiratory Care or higher from an accredited program.
  • CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) certification from the NBRC (National Board for Respiratory Care).
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification within one year of hire.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Certification Program) within one year of hire.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification within one year of hire.
  • Registry eligibility; some acute experience is preferred.
  • Preferred education: Bachelor's degree in a related healthcare field.
  • Preferred certification: RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
Salary and Benefits

This position has a hiring range of $35,012 - $59,012.
