About the Role

Penn Medicine is committed to delivering exceptional patient care, advancing medical research, and educating future healthcare leaders. As a Practice Coding Specialist I, you will play a vital role in our clinical practices, working closely with top professionals across various disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and interpret patient medical records to assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-CM, and CPT 4 codes for ambulatory surgery, special procedures, observation, emergency department, outpatient ancillary, and clinic visit records.
  • Apply ICD-10, HCPCS/CPT, and APC codes for routine and complex procedures, maintaining or exceeding quality and productivity standards.
  • Stay up-to-date with coding requirements and provide guidance to colleagues.
  • Participate in initiatives related to data integrity and billing processes.
  • Perform duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.
Requirements
  • Certified Procedural Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification is required.
  • RHIA or RHIT certification is preferred.
  • High School Diploma/GED and 1-3 years of coding experience, including outpatient or specialty coding, are required.
